The FDCPA is essentially a laundry list of what debt collects can and cannot do while collecting a debt, as well as things debt collectors must do while collecting a debt. Most of our ARA, Inc., clients we’ve helped have FDCPA cases against ARA, Inc.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”) protects you from robocalls. Robocalls are those annoying, automated, recorded calls that a computer makes to you all day long. You can tell it’s a robocall because either no one is on the other end of the line or there’s a delay when you pick up the phone before a live person comes on the line. You can get $500 per call if ARA, Inc., violates the TCPA.

The Electronic Fund Transfer Act (“EFTA”) protects electronic payments that are deducted from bank accounts. If ARA, Inc., took unauthorized deductions from your bank account, you may have an EFTA claim. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”) works to ensure that no information reported to your credit report is false. In essence, it gives you the right to dispute those inaccuracies that you find on your credit report. Typically, ARA, Inc., does not report to consumers’ credit reports. This is likely due to the fact that the debt ARA, Inc., usually collects on is so old.

Several states also have laws that provide its citizens an additional lawyer of protection. For example, if you live in California, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Montana, or Pennsylvania you may be able to tack on a state-law claim with your federal law claim above.

HOW CAN WE USE THE LAW TO HELP YOU?

We will use these federal laws, and potential state laws, to stop ARA, Inc., in its tracks. If ARA, Inc., violates the FDCPA, EFTA, FCRA, or any state laws, you may be entitled to money damages. For example, under the FDCPA, you can get up $1,000.00 in damages plus actual damages. The FDCPA has a fee-shift provision. This means, ARA pays our attorney’s fees and costs. If you have a TCPA case against ARA, we will handle it based on a contingency fee.THAT’S NOT ALL…We have helped hundreds of consumers stop ARA, Inc., harassment. We know how to stop the harassment and get you money damages. ONCE AGAIN, you will not pay us a penny for our time. We will help you based on a fee-shift provision and/or based on a contingency fee. That means, the ARA, Inc., pays your attorney’s fees and costs.

THE GOOD NEWS IS…

If ARA, Inc., is on your credit report, we can help you dispute it. Mistakes on your credit report can be very costly. Along with causing you to pay higher interest rates, you may be denied credit, insurance, a rental home, a loan, or even a job because of these mistakes. Some mistakes may include someone else’s information on your credit report, inaccurate public records, stale collection accounts, or maybe you were a victim of identity theft. If you have a mistake on your credit report, there is a process to dispute them. My office will help you pull your credit report and dispute any inaccurate information.

REMEMBER…

If a credit reporting agency violates its obligations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), you may be entitled to statutory damages up to $1,000.00, plus the credit reporting agency will be required to fix the error. The FCRA also has a fee-shift provision. 1. “ARA called my house today fishing for information for my mother in law. She has not hold any debt or loans. She is handicapped and he would take advantage of her. Joseph wouldn't tell us what the legal issue was about. He just kept fishing for information.”
 2. “ARA is a ripoff, I went to my bank, stopped payment and they forced the check through another way. My bank is going after them for check fraud. My debt was over 17 years old and they can’t do that, 10 statute of limitations.”
 3. “I received a phone call from ARA today on a supposed 16 year old credit card debt that I did not even recognize the name of the bank, and kept telling them that I don't believe this was my account. They kept telling me that there was already a judgement against me, which I am totally unaware of, and I never received any documentation from a court or the company they are saying I owe the money to!”

 2. “ARA called me to collect a debt I paid over 20 years ago and closed account in the 1990's. Tammy Bloomberg sent me a settlement letter for a debt I do not owe and if I did owe this in the 1990's, the statute of limitations was up 15+ years ago.”
 3. “I went bankrupt back in 1996 (that's 21 years ago!), and this company was sniffing around MY credit report just this year. It is one thing to try to collect on a time-barred debt, but debt collection agencies ought to have the brains not to try to collect on a debt wiped off the books 14 years ago.”
 4. “These people are unprofessional rude inconsiderate and crooks. I didn't have a card from Spiegel nor have I used Spiegel associates in over ten years. The two I spoke with on the phone was very DISRESPECTFUL very rude and uncooperative”

Sample Cases We Have Handled Against ARA, Inc.

I THINK YOU’LL AGREE WITH ME WHEN I SAY…

Threats and harassment by ARA, Inc., are pretty intimidating. Well, it turns out we can stop the harassment, attempt to get you money damages under the law, and ARA, Inc., will have to pay us our fees and costs. Here are two, of many, cases we’ve handled against ARA, Inc.

 1. Felicia v. ARA Inc.: In or around April 2017, ARA, Inc., began placing collection calls to Felicia’s cell phone number. ARA, Inc., called our client from 888-409-5060. In or around April 2017, Felicia spoke with ARA’s collector, Josh Treavor. During this conversation, the collector stated that ARA would file a lawsuit against Felecia and send a sheriff to pick up Felicia if she did not make a payment. Relying on ARA’s threats, Felicia made several payments ARA, Inc., totaling $648.15. In this case, we argued ARA, Inc., violated the law by threatening to take legal action on a debt that is beyond the statute of limitations. We also alleged ARA, Inc., had no intention of suing Felicia, and could not legally sue Felicia. We stepped in, stopped the harassment, and resolved Felicia’s debt collection harassment case against ARA, Inc.
 2. Joseph v. ARA Inc.: In June 2017, ARA, Inc., called Joseph to collect on a Capital One Bank credit card debt. called our client from 888-686-9475. Joseph spoke with collector, Yvette Stone. During this conversation, ARA’s collector stated that ARA would file a judgment against our client and send him the court date in the mail if he did not make a payment. Joseph contacted Agruss Law Firm, LLC. We immediately figured out it was ARA that made these empty threats to Joseph. Joseph hired us free of charge. We stopped the harassment, got our client money damages under the law, and ARA paid our fees. We also double checked our client’s credit report to make sure everything was accurate.

Here’s What Our Clients Say About Us

Agruss Law Firm, LLC, has over 900 outstanding client reviews through Yotpo, an A+ BBB rating, and over 125 five-star reviews on Google. Here’s what some of our clients have to say about us.

CAN ASSET RECOVERY ASSOCIATES SUE ME?

Although anyone can sue anyone for any reason, we have never seen ARA sue consumers. It’s likely ARA does not sue because they do not always own the debt they are collecting on. Also, ARA would have to hire a lawyer, or use in-house counsel, to file a lawsuit. It’s likely ARA collects debts through the entire country. Therefore, it would be very difficult to have lawyers, or a law firm, licensed in every state. There are collection agencies that do sue consumers. For example, Midland Credit Management is one of the largest junk-debt buyers. Midland Credit Management collects on debt and also sues on debt. The opposite is true with . Therefore, it would be very unusual if ARA sued you. The original creditor, on the other hand, may hire a collection firm, or lawyer, to sue you. If ARA has threatened to sue you, call us. We can help.

CAN ASSET RECOVERY ASSOCIATES GARNISH MY WAGES?

No, not unless they have a judgment. If ARA has not sued you, then ARA cannot get a judgment. If does not have a judgment, then ARA cannot garnish your wages. Minus limited situations (usually dealing with debts owed to the government for student loans, taxes, etc.), in order to garnish someone’s wages, you need a judgment first. In short, we have not seen ARA file a lawsuit against a consumer. So, ARA cannot garnish your wages, minus the exceptions listed above. If ARA has threatened to garnish your wages, contact our office right away.

ASSET RECOVERY ASSOCIATES SETTLEMENT

If you want to settle a debt with , ask yourself these questions first:

 1. Do I really owe this debt?
 2. Is this debt within the statute of limitations?
 3. Is this debt on my credit report?
 4. If I pay this debt, will ARA remove it from my credit report?
 5. If I pay this debt, will the original creditor remove it from my credit report?
 6. If I pay this debt, will I get something in writing from ARA confirming the payment and settlement terms?

These are not the only things to consider when dealing with debt collectors. We are here to help you answer the questions above, and much more. Whether it’s harassment, settlement, pay for delete, or any other legal issue with , the folks at Agruss Law Firm are here to help you.

Complaints & Comments

Contacted by Asset Recovery Associates about a debt that is 21 years old. They said that there was a judgement being filed against me.

I am getting phone calls and letters about a charged off debt about twenty years old!

Just had ARA call me and stated I had an old credit card debt from 2002. I told him that there is a statute of limitations but he was still persistent that I owed it, I didn't confirm my social security. They called from Illinois from 6303267606 and guy was Josh Trever, with case # 4617456. He told me to call 8886869475x3039. I just wanted to make sure that I'm right on not responsible for a debt from 16 yrs ago!

I was contacted by a Yvette Young yesterday about an old credit card debt from 2002. Chase bank and was told that there was paper work already filed in my county and that unless I paid them 10% of the ending debt with interest they were going to allow the paper work to be processed. I advised her that I am not working and she then asked why I could not ask my boyfriend Nick, she knew his name. Or use the credit card that I am a authorized user on from my sister!

I am receiving calls from ARA incorporate, so I looked them up and found your user page on them and I am a Federal employee that my credit has to be protected, I am also a Private Investigator and I have the ability to track them down further. However, I would like your professional opinion. I am not sure if they have a real claim on me? When I was much younger I was not as well put together like I am now so I may owe some money to someone, somewhere but very long ago!

Received a call from this company. Never owed anyone, this is a scam, tried to block the number however received a call today. How are they allow to continue this abuse. Nothing...they said the are sending info to a address I never lived at however I know who lives there, I am waiting for the info. The bill was 14,000, and they will settle for 3,800!

Have received multiple calls on my work phone regarding a debt from over 14 years ago. they are harassing me stating that they will be in contact w/ my employer, mortgage lender, and personal bank!

I got a call from ara and they told me that they will send me to court over a payday loan i have no memory of making from longboat services amd that if i dont pay it i will be served and end up in front of a judge and pay over 2k in fees i made arrangements for payments of 45 today and the rest on tues the 19 of march 2019...i asked for paperwork to see if its legit but they said they dont give out paperwork...please help David Griffin!

I'm Martin. I received a letter from ARA stating that I owe 1639.29 to Beneficial Bank. I don't recall ever doing business with this bank and if I had it has been well over 10 years or so. I checked my credit reports and paid receipts and have nothing mentioning this bank at all. What should I do about ARA? I vaguely remember a beneficial at some point in the past but if I had done business with them, I don't remember. They haven't been on any credit report for many years if they ever were!

I'm on the phone with them now asking me for payment. It's regarding a pay day loan with advance America. I have ARA LEDIGATUIN ON THE PHONE. I just provided them with my card info!

I have been getting harassing phone calls and so have my brother, sister and mother for the past 3 days. They claim I have a payday loan with Advanced Payday in 2010 when I lived in South Carolina. Don't remember any of that and it is not on my credit report. I moved To Arizona 5 years ago and told them so, They claim they are filing charges against me today. I told them to send me the paperwork so I can see if it real and they start harassing me, calling me a drunk or on drugs and saying the same about my mother. They even contacted my brother and my sister is now involved. I want to press charges against them. This is harassment, intimidation and threats. I have nothing to go on and they are calling every hour, if not me, then my family.

Well have been harassed by ARA on a account on which the statue of limitations have expired. They also have violated Pa. statutes in the frequency of their calls. Other than that they threaten legal action on and case that the statute had expired I think that what I have given U is a prima facia case for action. The question is do they have assets!

I HAVE GOTTEN SEVERAL CALLS FROM ARA ABOUT A DEBT FROM 1990-ISH AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THEY ARE A LAW FIRM AND GOING TO FREEZE MY BANK ACCOUNT. I TOLD THEM I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF THIS DEBT AND PLEASE SEND ME INFO IN THE MAIL WHICH I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE YET THEY ARE STILL HARASSING ME. I AM JUST WAITING ON THE LETTER FROM THEM, BUT RECEIVED ANOTHER CALL FROM THEM TODAY!

They contacted my wife threatened to put a lein on our house for a debt that was 15 yrs old. She sent them a payment of over 300 dollars!

Hi Corlis, did you get anything in writing from ARA before making the payments? There's a scam ARA and a legitimate ARA. Either way, I can help you figure this out. The legitimate ARA usually does not collect on payday loans. So, if the scam ARA took money from you, you should immediately stop paying. You can also call your bank or credit card company to try to get your money back. I can help you too. Let's discuss this further on the phone. I'll call you. Or, call me whenever you're free. My number is 888-572-0176. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Heather, Asset Recovery Associates does not sue people. Therefore, ARA does not have a judgment against you. ARA uses these type of empty threats to scare consumers into making payments on debt. Will you please send me the letter so I can review it? You can fax it to me at 312-253-4451, e-mail it to me at micheael@agrusslawfirm.com or mail it to me at 4809 N Ravenswood Ave, Suite 419, Chicago, IL 60640. I'm helped over 100 consumers stop harassment from ARA. I'm sure I can help you too. Thanks, Mike.

I received a letter from ARA saying they have a judgment for me and I have to pay $3000. Just trying to check if they have the right to operate in TN. I looked them up on the state Collections Agency verification page and can't find them!

I have been paying this company by the name of ARA they are a debt collector they call me about paying pay day loan that I took out in 2014 and never paid it back they are telling me if I don't pay it back they will serve me with a paper from the court where I will have to go and end up paying them $3,000 back when I only borrow $500 and I have payed them 150 already so I am trying to see what I need to do because they call restricted a lot so I don't know if it's a scan are not. It's not they will be calling tomorrow for a payments I ask them once before to send me some information on my balance and I haven't received it yet. Call me please. Thanks!

Company ARA is calling me from 844-808-1689 telling me about a debt that they refuse to give me any information on. Something about a loan agreement with Acceptance LLC from 2015 and bounced check. I have their contact info as PO Box 910 clifton VA 20124!

ARA contacted me today with my social security number and a debt from 1992-1994 in arizona. They threatened to place a lien if I didn't pay some money now. How would I know that the debt is legitimate. I want to pay if I actually owe, but not if this is a scam. I am still searching for legitimacy. I can use our companies lawyer for a consultation, I was just hoping to find a way to see if debt is real!

I believe I am a victim of ARA. I am a senior citizen who, because of numerous surgeries have suffered from some memory loss. This group contacted me early last week and the one fella told me that if I didn’t come up with 12,000 that I owed from something more than 14 years ago he would send a sheriff to where I lived and implied I would be arrested. Then I was told that they would work with me and the cost would be $4600 something dollars. This has thrown me in a tizzy. I do have something they sent me over night with a signature on it. I am moving to a housing authority senior apt tomorrow. This has been very upsetting to me!

What possible recovery is available against ARA for lying and falsely trying to get money for a very old (10 years) debt? They called twice today telling me they are about to file for judgement against me but will give me an opportunity to pay them first!

Does a collection agency have to inform you that they ARE a collection agency when they leave you a voicemail? Just asking to determine if it could be a valuable case for your firm forto wrack up damages against ARA. Well I just received the call this morning- this is the first call from them. Any debt I had is past the statute of limitations – I imagine they bought some old debt from 10+ years ago when I lost my job and defaulted on some credit cards!

Ia ARA a legitimate collections agency? They left message on phone today saying important to call. I then called and they said I owed a credit card 34,000.00 from ten years ago and that i could settle for 5,000. They said otherwise they would be able to get the money from my accounts!

I received letter from ARA stating I owed $1811.66 for Sprint Ltd-Local Home Phone Bill. I have never had Sprint as a phone bill. I haven't even had home phone in years. Thank you!

I am being harrassed by ARA, Inc. When they first called in Oct. I was under a great deal of stress. Still not dealing with my Sons death and just had revieved news that my only living brother has terminal CA. I'm 66yrs old. Usually, wd have never fallen for this scam but, wasn't thinking clearly. Gave them all info and allowed $50 to b taken out of bank monthly! I haven't worked in about 18 yrs due to work injury. I did have loans out, but not a Master Card. The first call said the debt was from a Verizon Wireless Loan. Never had either! Closed bank account and the guy called yesterday to ask why! Told him, I gave info under duress and was contacting FTC and BBB in Illinois. Told him to call back later in day and would give him my lawyers contact info! Never called!

My family members got a call from locator service and when I called back it said ARA they said that they need to talk to me about being defendant and if I don't contact them they with send legal documents to my work

ARA is harassing my daughter and has called her for three days. ARA has called me, my son, and my ex-daughter in law about Jadie Martin, my daughter, owing money. Our court house has no pending cases against her. Today they have called her co-workers and her boss, which could cause her to get fired. I have called them back three times and told them they are a scam and not to call her back and that I had contacted you. They hung up on me twice and the last time ask me if I wanted to pay. They just now called me back twice asking my birthdate, and my husband's birthdate. I would not tell them, and I am so stressed about them calling me. I have chronic pain anyway and this is creating more pain for me.

I received a phone call from ARA today on a supposed 19 year old credit card debt with Household Credit that I did not even recognize the name of never had a card for nor charged anything against. I told them over and over this is not my account, and that it way passed statue of limitations. They mentioned my current high limit credit accounts and excellent credit score and said that I had the ability to pay this debt. If I don't pay with in 3 days they will go after a judgement against me and that all of my current credit lines are in jeopardy. They said they mailed notices to me but I have never received any. They were rude and threatening and this is NOT my debt.

Was contacted by this company stating I have a out standing credit card since 2007. They claim I can settle for 1,576.00. The original was 3,000 with penalties late fees. They are threatening me. Don't wont this to damage my credit score!

My name is Clayton. Asset Recovery keeps calling Me even though I clearly told them 6 times not to call. They have lied to me so many times I can not count. I believe they are trying to call me from another number!

Received a call from Asset Recovery Ass. that I owe 3600+ dollars on a credit card from 1986-2004, then got a letter today showing they purchased debt from B.M. F. & Assoc. They have a lot of personal info on me. I do not recognize the credit card as ever being mine what do I do? The collection person is to call me this afternoon!

I was on earlier but had to answer the phone. I am not much of a typist so bare with me. I was phoned this morning by Assets Recovery Associates. I went onto the website you recommended to obtain my credit report and sure enough there was an inquiery by Financial Credit Services made today!

I just spoke to you 10 minutes ago can you connect me with a representative I need to speak to someone. I spoke to Emily and she said i could call her back!

I have been paying Assest recovery associates $100 a month for a credit card I owed from when I was 18 yrs old. I am now 44. I don't have a number to this company to see what my balance is only a name appears on my bank statement. Is this the right company or could you tell me if I am a client of yours. The debt if for First USA bank!

My name is Mike. Tammy Bloomberg called me a couple of weeks ago claiming that i owe bank of america over six thousand dollars. I have never even had an account with bank of america. She threatened to put this on my credit report if i didnt agree to pay the settlement of a little over two thousand dollars. i had to pay ten percent of the settlement when i was talking to her which was a little over two hundred dollars. We were told that this is a scam and that we shouldnt pay it. We did send the two hundred dollars but have not sent the balance she claims we owe of a little over two thousand dollars. She continues to call us and harass us about the payment being sent by the fifth of this month or else. She just called again today. How can I stop the harrassing calls?!

I have received a letter form ARA Inc, saying that I owe them $2300.00 from a very old cell phone bill. this account was not opened by me, but someone who had my name and SS number. they are threatening to put a bank levy on my checking, savings, and credit cards, can they do that? this bill is approx 20 years old. They have a lot of information on me, that's what is scary!

I don't know why am I called for a loan I took in 2002 or 2003. I took a loan from household in 2002 or 2003. I voluntarily had them pick it up a year later and I believe this is the first time anybody called me about wanting to settle for 3000. It was off my credit history and like a fool I did pay them 173 by credit card!

My name is Jerome. I was contacted today by ARA and they told me that if I didn't pay a debt that was opened between 1997 and 2004 I will be going to court and could end up pay 10,000 plus dollars, I wasn't even in the country until the year 2000. They said it was a credit card debt, and I know since I returned to the U.S. military get, got out as a financial hardship, I never applied for credit since my return, until recent I believe 2016 to be exact. Ihad to make a payment, and agree to pay 2086.78 by 12 Feb. Minus a payment today of 205.00. Also they are sending a letter by fed ex on Monday to these terms and recorded our conversation supposedly. What should I do in the meantime, should I cancel the payment I made today? It was by cc. They also said that they sent me out letters which I never received, and they said they were going to take me to court if I didn't pay!

My name is Cristina. I have a card from Household way back on the 90s. Now, the ARA is forcing me to pay a settlement which is too high. I received no mail from them. A representative just called, forcing me to pay till Jan 19. At first, when I called them, the woman said to me that they will mail me. Then I ask my address, she can't say so they transferred to Mr. Logan asking me a settlement but I didn't receive a letter. They also said that they have contacted my credit card to Capital One and they found out how much credit I have. But that's against the law we have, called privacy policy. Please, I wish to talk to you by phone. I can't sleep and do my chores. All of my doings are messed. I am afraid thou I found out on the web that the address they have provided says they are real people using the Name ARA. I was a victim before. I gave $900. They have an address which they have provided me alongside with a letter and a promise that they will send me an email that I paid in full. I ask for the info on the bank that it was owed to and she said that Hunington Bank did not own the loan. anymore that they did. she had his ss# and also had my ss#!

I was contacted today by Asset Recovery Association and I see now that I was scammed. THey threatened me with court/lawsuit if I did not pay. I gave them by card number for 100.00. I could change my card by my bank but they will proably take out the money on Monday and use my card for other funds. What do I do? Everything that I have now read about this copany dealing with others is the same that they did to me. I do not remember having a loan with Bank One and they said it was from 1999. They also said it was under my first married name!

I just realized That they are scam and they have got about $2500 from me...I am going to bank on Monday and stopping the payment from coming out of my account!

I just received a call from phone number 630-884-4630, they told me that they were referred to from Ara and that I owe that company money. They also gave me a phone number to contact that company. I have not called that company yet. What should I do?!

ARA called me at work today about a payday loan. I explained that I was filing bankruptcy and this was included in that. I was then informed by ARA that I would be served papers due to the "bad check" that I had written to this payday loan company that was returned insufficient funds. I told them I would contact my attorney and call them back. My attorney advised me that yes indeed even a "bad check" is included in my bankruptcy. I called ARA back and asked them to send me proof of this check I wrote. They told me they didn't provide proof that all that would be included in the paperwork when I was served. I said you cant provide proof because I never wrote a check. It was all done electronically and per my attorney this matter is included in my bankruptcy. At this point the woman from ARA started yelling at me and said we will see you and your attorney in court then hung up on me

I am a 64 year old male living on social security. I received a threatening vm from ara today. I returned the call and was treated horribly until I agreed to settle a debt i Don t remember having. Debt was chase cc from 2007. I was afraid because ara said they were in process of filing for judgement of $12,000 in my county. I agreed to settle debt over phone for $2,000 via credit cards. I never admitted to the debt but was terrified to go to court for many reasons, including bad health. I gave ara my credit card information on 4 different credit cards to settle debt and then realized I had ben taken advantage of. Is there anything you can do for me? !

I was contacted by ARA in regards to an unpaid tuition debt from the Liberty University School of lifelong learning from the 1980's. I sent them over $2000.00 and never received any more communication from them. It has caused me much grief. Hope you can help! I am a minister so I was afraid after being threatened. There is more that I can tell you but I never received any correspondence from them as they promised, showing the debt was satisfied. I listed the payment on my 2016 tax as education but I have nothing to prove that, other than my canceled check, so the IRS is after me. Hope you can help!

ARA has been calling my family, including my 17 yr old daughter...I talked to them and set up a payment arrangement so they would stop calling.... After researching the company, I realize they will say ANYTHING to get the consumer to pay them. I’m not trying to get out of paying the debt...it’s a payday loan that I had forgotten about. I’ve been trying to repair my credit, so I really want to get any negative reports off of my credit!

I have a company ara that called me today about a hot check with some bank called ez credit union. I never had this bank before and they wouldn't give me any information on the case. This is the first time ive heard of this compnay and i dont cash checks they said it happened in 2009!

I just got a call from ARA and was transferred to Rebecca Sterling - she says I have a past due debt of 25K that they are suing for 45K with Fulton Cty GA - I don't owe anything that I am aware if and any credit cards I may have had are from 10 - 15 years ago ... I only recently established new credit - SO not sure what to do. She was rude and threatening. I now live in Alpharetta GA. for past 4 years. They said they have been sending letters... never got any letters. I know there are collection companies that by old dept!

Ara inc has called me while I'm at work and caught me off guard to talk to me about a payday loan. The woman said that if i don't call her back within the hour with a payment or to set up a payment plan they would garish my wages because there is a lawsuit against me. I was so worried about this and i couldn't talk about it at work with patients and other staff around me that i told her I'd have to call her back on my lunch break. She proceeded to tell me that she knows i can step outside and also that she knows that i get a 30min lunch with two 15min breaks. She was extremely hateful towards me. Her name was Wanda Milton. I called back on my lunch break where i asked to speak with her supervisor to complain and take care of the issue since i have been working on my credit anyways, i agreed to set up a payment plan with 166.02 automatically taken out every payday. I have made about 5 or so payments this far and when i looked at my account to see why it was lower than i expected i found that they are automatically drafting the money out before or after my paydays (not on the dates agreed upon) putting me in a bind at times. I called my bank today to stop payment and I'm wondering if can they do this to me? I feel like i was being harassed in the first place and now they're taking my money when ever they please. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!

How much do u charge? I'm being harrassed by ara to pay a debt from 1994!

Just got a call from ARA Inc about a supposed line of credit back from 2001, HIS WORDS saying that i owed 3000+ he had my social security number!!! he said it was out of twin falls county the date he gave me is from over ten years ago..... he said 6-21-2011 to 11-25-2005 he siad the balance originated at 783.52 supposedly but that i was being sued for 3000! wth is that? it just freaks me out because he read me my entire social security number! no. im not giving anything out. ill call you if you give me a number. this web page says to report the incident to you!

Hi Teresa, 888-686-9475 is ARA, Inc. ARA did not file a lawsuit against you. ARA uses this as a tactic to get consumers, like yourself, to make a quick payment on the phone out of fear. Contrary to what John Michaels told you, there is a statute of limitations on credit card debt. I'm not surprised that you haven;t used this card since 1995. Asset Recovery Associates usually collects on debt that is REALLY old. The good news for you is you found my law firm. I help people stop this type of harassing. Under the law, you are entitled to money damages and ARA will have to pay my attorney's fees. You won't pay me a penny for a my help. I'll call you to discuss your rights. Thanks, Mike.

I just got a call from ara, 888-686-9475, a John Michaels. He had my ss#, new about my credit cards and balances on them. He said today a lawsuit has been filed in my county, and today was the last day to pay on a debt, he said it was a secured master card with Chase visa, and there was no statue of limitations on the debt. He wants 280 today and 2,500 by Nov. 26th or I will have to go to court. This card has not been used since 1995. What do I do? The card was used by my ex-husband unknown to me and he didn't pay all the bill, and it is not even on my credit report anymore!

I am at work right now and can't really afford to spend any more time on this at the present. Work is my only email access and I do have a problem, but will have to get back to this. Short story. I have ara trying to collect on a credit card debt. The card has not been used since late 1998 or possibly early 1999. I made a $500 payment on a promise of proof of original debt and an original account #. What they sent was a credit card # (16 digit), no account #, and when I called them back this morning they said that they cannot and will not provide details of the debt because I would disappear and they would never hear from me again! I need to get back to work. Can I get a contact to use in a couple of hours?

I was on site earlier with a collection problem with ARA. I hardly know where to start again. I won't go into all the details of my earlier problems, but the crux of the matter is in 1996 I had an accident. After some problems with insurance I had creditors beating down the door. I had a letter drafted and sent to all creditors advising them to close all accounts. They were further asked to seek judgements against me. I wanted everyone to get paid and was advised that they would need to come one at a time to collect their money. I did this rather than try to declare bankruptcy because I did want to pay my debt. Yes. Nearly all did come and collect. I thought that I was done with all of this in late 2000 and early 2001. I have not used credit and have been VERY careful with my money. In May of 2016 I started a tedious process of establishing alternative credit so that I could buy a home. Since I have taken out my mortgage (after an extensive record search and numerous hoops to jump through) I have gotten bombarded with collections again. It seems that credit card companies did not seek judgments and instead kept accounts as "active" and were still compounding interest and charges. I was able to verify 2 of these and I settled. Thoughts?!

I was getting calls from someone kind of mumbling about turning my case over too the county I currently reside in about a debt. I was kinda frantic and called the number back and was told I owed a CC balance from 1998 and threatened me to either put a downpayment down now or I would have a judgment filed on me for over $12,000 but they'd settle for $3,000 so I gave them my bank account debit card number for $250.00 and they sent me a letter demanding $2,724.16 by November 17th. Please help. Bruce!

I got mail from this ARA about a debt from the 90. If I do not take care of it they will sue me for 22736$. Right now they want 5000.50 to settle it out of court by Monday. What do I do? I all ready gave them a 1000. on one of my card yesterday!

lady left message it was important to call them,at 888-686-9475. i did and she said i had a debt with direct merchant and with late fees its over $8,000 but they would settle for$2,974, she had my #ssn and my current address than when i ask her some information she got rude and said she not going to argue with me.i did have an account in 2002 with my ex-husband,and after going though a terrible divorce i could not afford to pay.so what can i do?!

ARA CALLED ME ABOUT A DEBT THAT'S OVER 16 YEARS,AND THE LADY WAS SO RUDE WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? CAN ONLY TELL SHE STATED I OWED $8,000 WITH LATE FEES,BUT THEY WILL SETTLE FOR $2,974 IS THIS A SCAM OR FOR REAL?!

Hi David, ARA is notorious for this type of collection tactics. ARA usually collects on debt way beyond the statute of limitations. ARA will not contact your lien holder, Wells Fargo. This is just a scare tactic. We can help you stop this type of harassment. We'll call you to discuss your rights on the phone. You can always reach me at my office at 888-572-0176 or by e-mail at michael@agrusslawfirm.com Thanks, Mike.

Just got a call from ARA on a almost 30 yr old debt. Said they would contact Wells Fargo which is my lien holder on my home. I hung up them!

I stumbled upon your website while investigating a company (ARA) that called me threatening a judgment against me for a debt that is more than 20 years old. I am in Oklahoma. I asked the woman who called me if she was with a collection agency, and she got angry and said No, they were an acquisition recovery firm and that they were calling because I was going to be taken to court to obtain a judgment against me for OVER $11000 ON A CREDIT CARD THAT HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR OVER 20 YEARS!

Ara called me about a debt back in 2002 I don’t know anything about? I payed them 10% out of panic and I’m going to dispute it with my credit card company!

John Powers is the one I spoke to 1-888-686-9475 ext 3068 said my case # was 4889873-01 can you help me!

I had a debt with McDuffs electronics in the early 1990's, I think it was around $1900.00 I paid on it for a year or so and the company went out of business. The following year I had a credit report done and it wshowed that McDuffs did a charge off on the balance. AXA called me and said that I owe over $8,000.00 but are willing to settle for $4684.00 If I don't settle by Oct 10, 2018, they will report to the credit companies that I owe a debt, additionally, they will freeze my bank accounts. They stated that because I just turned 65 they are willing to work with me for the next 7 days as long as the balance is paid and clears by the 10th.

ARA has my full social security number.

Thanks

Some one from from ara called Me from ara talking about a debt it was from approved cash and said I owed $900. That was from like 3 years ago. The gave me the info on it said it was for $590 but the total was $900. Well I knew about what she was talking about but approved cash would never give me info on how to pay it. I agreed to set up payments cuz I just thought I had too!

ARA has contacted me telling that they are collecting on a defaulted loan from 1995. If I don't paid they will report me and put a judgement against me. I live in Fort Lauderdale. When I did have this loan I live in MI. I was 18 at the time. They want the money by the 27th of this month. I will pay if needed but not sure if there is a statue of limitations. i very nervous and my husband and i are buying a home so i cant get a judgement!

Hello! My name is Denise. I found a comment from someone saying your company helped them in dealing with ARA. They are trying to collect a debt that is over ten years old. I'm furious! There is nothing on my credit report, I want to sue these people!

Got called today from ara. Said they are seizing my bank account. Placing a line on my house and garnish my wages. gave me a case number contact number and amount for the alleged debt. knew my ss# and bank and place of work!

I have been contacted by ARA & Assoc saying I owe for a bill I am not familiar with in November of 2000. They are threatening to have me served tomorrow and garnish my wages. They are saying the case was reassigned because of affidavits by my former husband and his current wife!

I received a phone call from ARA on my cell at 930 this morning saying I had a judgment from Heilig Meyer furniture. Don't know or think I ever did. If I did it was at least 15 years ago. They called my work to get my fax number and faxed an employee verification sheet over. There's nothing on my credit and I've never received anything in the mail!

I was contacted by ARA ... asking for my ex husband this was today I asked what this was in regards. They said my name and social was attached to a Bank of America card in the tune of $15,000. I said when was the account opened. They said 2003 i said ... I didn't know him or date him until 2007. We married 11/2007 and were legally separated within 6 months I neither signed nor mingled any money or credit cards. He said that they would settle with me right then for $2300 or they would levy my bank account and take me to court i called back and requested a contract I signed with that credit card and wanted everything in writing He said I don't know they said that.I think it's a scam .... I never had anything with my ex and it doesn't show on my credit report!

Hi Corinne, I completely agree with you that Asset Recovery Associates can be threatening. ARA, Inc. uses threatening collection efforts to get people to pay debts immediately on the phone. The good news is you found my firm. I've helped hundreds of consumers stop harassment from ARA. I'm confident I can help you too. I'll call you so we can discuss your rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Alan, ARA was probably looking at your credit report and that's how they knew so much about you. I understand why you hung up on them. It much be really frustrating to get this type of call. I will help you stop these harassing calls. Have you received a letter from ARA? If so, please fax or e-mail it to me. My fax is 312-253-4451 and my e-mail is michael@agrusslawfirm.com Thanks, I look forward to helping you. - Mike Agruss.

Hi Krista, ARA will not sue you or get a judgment entered against you for this debt. As you mentioned, this renaissance credit card is over 15 years old. Therefore, it's well beyond the statute of limitations. I can help you stop the calls from ARA. What number did ARA call from? Don't pay this debt without speaking with my firm first. You have rights and we will enforce them. Thanks, Mike.

Got a call from ARA today claiming i owe like $3,500 on a renaissance credit card which i have never had. The account was sent to 15 collection agencies over the years. I never got any letters from them or the ARA either. They made a sift inquiry today on my credit report. No debit is listed in collections anywhere on my credit report. He said I would be sued and a judgement will be placed against me. I had until tomorrow to pay 2000 or the balance will be like 6500 then. So is this for real. I don't owe this debt I don't believe. What am i to do? He said I should of received a lot of letters by now cause its been in 15 collections companies. I got to be to work at 5 am in the morning so if possible i can talk to someone tomorrow. I gotta get some sleep!

ARA inc letter of debt,,dont owe any money,,knew my social number, knows I have kids,,knows alot about me,,told him I was recording,,swore then hung up!

I live in Florida. ARA Inc called my husband today about some lie of credit from 2008. They were very forceful and threatening!

They asked for money on good faith the loan is 25 yrs old I gave them a 100 dollars. They are expecting 1200 in ten days. I felt like it was a scam!

Hi, I live in Fl. Have received several robocalls just today from ARA. They advised they were sending all information from a very old debt to my employer in order to garnish my wages. They advised I was being sued for this debt. When I confronted them they terminated the call. They then robocalled me again. I called them back and they disconnected once they found I was not a victim. I called them and asked for their company name, location, etc. They refused to give it to me and terminated the call a third time. They were rude and aggressive!

I received a letter giving me 30 days to pay or dispute a Spiegel fashions account in which I have never nor would ever spend over $13,000. how can i stop this from going any farther? They are not calling me back either and I emailed Spiegel and still no response from them either...there is no number to call. I don’t answer numbers I don’t know but no messages either so not sure if they call me. I don’t even know when this spending was to of taken place!

I am inquiring about a case with ARA that is against my husband they are threatening garnishment for a debt that was not opened by him over 18 years ago is there someone I can speak with locally? they are expecting a settlement payment today to avoid garnishment the debt is supposedly for $10k and they will settle for $1100 - $600 today and $500 in 30 days...I have already paid $100 towards this as I thought it was a legitimate debt and did not want to face a garnishment!

I keep getting phone calls and so do all my relatives from ARA. Do I need to get a lawyer involved? I have asked them repeatedly about information and all they do is get mad and curse then hang up. They say I have 2 criminal charges for defrauding a bank or something!

Ms. Bradley, started calling me back in May of 2018. Cell Phone to work phone, then calls the CFO of the company I work for, telling him how do they serve me court documents. So I set up payment arrangements, I missed last week, and they are starting again. Please advise!

I saw your information on the Internet while I was looking up information on ARA, Inc. I received a threatening phone call from this company from the number 773-365-9096 at 0853 AM on 9 Jul 18. The caller ask me to verify my name which I did and then my SSN. I informed them I don't provide that information over the phone. He then transferred me to a female. This lady was extremely rude! She ask me to verify my name and full SSN. I told her I didn't know who she was and ask what was the purpose of her call. She claimed that I had a Providian credit card that I didn't pay. I informed her that I never had a credit card by Providian and didn't know what she was talking about. She then tried to get me to verify information that appeared she was looking or trying to get into my credit report. She started asking who my car loan was through, if I had a USAA credit card with credit limit of $17,500, if I lived at a certain address. I interrupted her and said I'm not giving you any of my information as I have no clue who you are and you have yet to tell me why you are calling. She then started saying that I used this credit card and didn't pay, that they won a judgment against me, that I have a credit card with USAA and they will garnish my account. I informed her that I never received any information for a judgment won against me. I ask for her name and she didn't want to give it. I then said, "unless you provide me who you are, what is your company, and what you want we can end this call." For every question she ask, my answer to her was "what is your name?" I told her that this sounds like a scam and that I am not providing any of my information over the phone and know for a fact that I never had a credit card from Providian. She became extremely agitated and started speaking loudly in a threatening tone saying they are going to garnish my wages. I again said, "what is your name?" She then said, "If you just listen I'll tell you." She said her name was Rebecca Sterling from Asset Recovery. I then told her if she has an issue with anything on my credit to put in on my credit report and I'll dispute it from there. Then she became extremely mad and said, "I'm going to hang up the phone if you keep talking." I told her that she called me. She stated they have been trying to call me and can see that the mail they sent went un-answered. I informed her that I never received any mail from her company. She then said she was hanging up and that I could call 888-409-5060 Ext 3022 with a Reference number 4579935 if I wanted to settle. I again told her if she had anything showing this so-called credit card to mail it. She ask for my address and I told her she should have it. On Tuesday, 10 July 2018 I checked my mail and there was this letter from ARA, Inc informing me of this debt. I have no clue what this is. I routinely check my credit report and there is nothing derogatory on it. I previously had credit issues but it took me a long time to get the good standing and credit score that I have right now. I don't want anyone messing that up. I noticed that you have helped others in the past and I am emailing you for guidance. Should I respond to the letter informing them that I dispute the debt? Is there something that can be done about the callers attitude? I'm not sure if you will be able to assist as I live in the state of Texas. I've attached a copy of the letter sent. Thank you for your time!

Hi Jamie, ARA does not have a personal judgment against you. The debt ARA is collecting on is almost 15 years old. This is WAY beyond the statute of limitations. The good news is you, you found my law firm. We've helped tons of consumers stop debt collection harassment from ARA. I'm 100% confident we can help you too. Not only can we stop the calls, we can get you money damages, and ARA has to pay my fees and costs. I'll call you to discuss your rights further. Thanks, Mike.

I received a call from Amy Lewis at ARA Inc a couple of days ago. She told me that there was a judgement against me from a credit card date from 2004. She then sent me letter via FedEx with my payment options. I am concerned that they are lying, and that this debt is beyond the statute of limitations. I need to respond to their letter by phone, but I'm not sure how to proceed!

Hi Michael, ARA does not, and will not, have a legal case against you. ARA collects on debt that is way beyond the statute of limitations. Therefore, ARA can never take legal action against consumers. ARA makes these threats to scare consumers into making payments. I can help you like I've done for so may consumers being harassed by ARA. Thanks, Mike.

HI Tiana, ARA will not take you to court for fraud. You did not commit fraud. ARA makes these kind of baseless threats to scare consumers into making immediate payments on the phone. The likely reason the original loan company is not on your credit report is because the debt is so old and it came off of your report. ARA usually gets on debt that is really old. I can help you. You have rights under a federal law called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I'll call you so we can discuss your rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Ara has recently contacted me about a loan i took out years ago with another company telling me that if i don’t pay they will take me to court for fraud. Yes i couldn’t pay the loan back due to me being laid off. I also agreed to a payment plan last week due to them mentioning fraud and their asking for way more then i borrowed. The original loan company was on my credit report but now they are not!

Got a leter in the mail today stating I owe ARA Inc $1,418 from original debt to a Providian Bank. Called to see who they were and they started making threats to push forward with a legal case. I told them to send me proof of this alleged debt from 2003 and they were even more rude to me. I hung up the phone and they guy calls my house back about 5 min later and starts telling me that I dont pay my bills and becomes even more rude, so I hung up. I have no idea who they are, but making threats to me is not acceptable!

Hi Al, Asset Recovery Associates will not do any of the above. Do not worry about a bank levy or a negative mark on your credit report. These are just scare tactics used by ARA to get you to make an immediate payment on the phone without first learning about your rights under the law. I'm glad you found my page. We've helped tons of consumers stop harassment from ARA. I'm confident we can help you too. I'll call you to discuss your rights on the phone. Don't worry about the July 8, 2018, deadline. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Tony, I'm glad you found my website. ARA is pretty aggressive. I've seen them collect on debt that's 25+ years old. Here, Circuit City went out of business years ago. This is pretty typical of ARA...collecting on debt for companies that are even out of business. If you do get something in writing from ARA, please forward it to me. I can help you stop this type of harassment. I will get the calls to stop. Under the law, you're entitled to money damages too. Plus, ARA will pay my fees and costs. You won't owe me dime. I'll explain these rights further on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Some lady said she was from ARA Inc. and was calling in reference to a lawsuit claim filed against me from Circuit city. This claim is over 18 yrs old.She told me that their was no statute of limitations on this. I told her I did not believe her she said I owed 2000 some odd dollars. I said I never charged that much. She said that I could settle and pay approx. half that amount, I said I wanted to see something in writing because I did not trust her. Then she said "what do you think I'm some friend of your trying to collect money." I said no I think you are a collection agency that bought my debt and I don't owe you anything. I will have a lawyer advise me what to do. She said a lawyer can't change the law. She wanted my email address I would not give it to her. She had my street address wrong so I corrected that and said if I do not receive a letter in the mail that this conversation is over. She said she would e-mail it to me if I would give her e-mail address. I said in writing. In mail. She was getting ruder by the minute and said if I would settle this today she would only ask for 800 and something. I said so it goes from 2000 to 1000 something to 800 something. I want it in writing. She said if you don't pay now you will have to pay the full amount. I said no I am not and hung up the phone. She never stated that this was a recorded phone call or anything like that. I wasn't 100% sure it was not a scam because the lady on the phone was very unprofessional and frankly quite rude. That's when I started a web search for ARA Inc. which led me to this page!

Ara called about a 30 year old debt and made threatening comments claims they are going to put a bank levy on my account are they a legal collector and they told me I owe 6,000 including late fees but will seattle for 1,900 than drop to 1,000 and if I don’t pay on July 8 they will come for all and on my credit is this possible!

Hi John, this number 630-206-3935 is fro ARA incorporated. I'm glad you knew your rights about the statute of limitations in Texas. The caller from ARA, Inc., was likely looking at your credit report and that's how they knew you had an American Express credit card. Don't worry, ARA cannot prevent you from using your American Express credit card. To answer your question, I can help you stop this. You don;t have to deal with this type of stress from ARA. I will stop the harassment and get you money damages. Plus, ARA incorporated will pay my fees. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Jessica, You made the right decision to wait a see if you are truly responsible for a debt that is 16 years old. Both numbers 630-326-7606 and 888-686-9475 are from ARA incorporated. So, at least we know we have the righr compnay calling you. When you spoke with Josh Trevor, did he threaten to take you to court, or take legal action against you, or garnish your wages, or lien your property, or anything else legal like that? A lot of times, ARA incorporated makes these type of threats to consumers. I can help you stop the harassment from ARA incorporated. Thanks, Mike.

Just had ARA call me and stated I had a old credit card debt from 2002. I told him that there is a statute of limitations but he was still presistant that I owed it, I didn't conform my social security. They called from Illinois from 630-326-7606 and guy was Josh Trever. He told me to call 888-686-9475 x3039. I just wanted to make sure that I'm right on not responsible for a debt from 16 yrs ago!

My husband received a call from ARA this morning the number 630-206-3935. They called about a credit card from 2003. They never gave me a balance for the card but did give me his birth date and social security number. I told him that we live Texas and the statute of limitations is 4 years. He said I know but we can still come after you. I was told that they were going to prevent us from using our American Express cards. Which I have never heard of. He said I would be receiving a letter from American Express saying we couldn't use our cards until we paid this bill. He gave me some long number was supposed to be for my husband's card and instead of giving him the number I just said that's not even close to our number. He stuttered and said well that was probably the first card you had and t he number has changed. So I told him I wasn't going to wait for the letter I was going to call American Express myself because I didn't believe him. So I did and American Express said they have no reason to put a hold on our cards. Evidently this isn't the first time they tried this crap. I just need to know if there is anything I can do to stop this? I am 63yrs old and have a heart condition and my husband is 70 yrs old and a veteran. Thank you for any help you maybe able to give!

Hi Laura, I think these calls are coming from the ARA Associates which is a scam company. Other consumers have complained about this scam caller too on Ripoff Report. I'll call you so we can confirm it's the scam ARA and not the real ARA in Lombard, IL. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Vickie, these collection tactics sure sound like Asset Recovery Associates to me. ARA incorporate has pulled these collection moves on my other clients. They demand immediate payment and ask you to charge it on your other credit cards that they know about. I think ARA inc. has this information from your credit report. Asset Recovery Associates cannot put a judgment on your account or take any other legal action. I can help you stop this harassment today. I'll call you to discuss your rights and options. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Jeremy, I'm sorry you are going through this type of harassment. The good news is you found my law firm. I'm helped thousands of consumers throughout my career stop debt collection harassment. I'm also very familiar with ARA, Inc., in Lombard, IL. I want to double check that it's this ARA harassing you. There's another ARA that's a scam company. If you can give me the number this ARA calls from, I'll find out who is actually calling you, your friends, and your family. I will help you stop this harassment. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Kimberly, you are dealing with the scam ARA. ARA Litigation is a scam. The number 855-201-2062 is the scam ARA. It sounds like you already paid them. Call your bank or credit card company and dispute the charges. Next, follow these steps to help stop the calls: To be certain this is the scam ARA, look at your credit report to ensure everything is accurate. You can get a free copy of your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com Next, follow my suggestions below to help stop the calls: 1. Do not answer their calls 2. Block their phone number 3. Tell your family, coworkers, etc., to ignore their calls, too 4. Register your number on the do-not-call list at https://www.donotcall.gov/ 5. File a complaint with the better business bureau at http://www.bbb.org/ 6. File a complaint with the Consumer Financial Credit Bureau at http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ 7. If you accidentally answer their phone call, do not give out any personal information over the phone (such as a credit card number, bank account number, or social security number). Thanks, Mike.

Hi Heather, I think the ARA calling you the scam ARA. The scam ARA usually seems to collect on payday loans. The easiest way to figure this out is to let me know the number that the collection agency calling is calling from. Then, I can figure out if it's the real ARA calling you or the scam ARA calling you. The real ARA goes by Asset Recovery Associates; ARA, Incorporated; ARA, Inc.; Financial Credit Service, Inc.; and others. I'll help you figure out who is calling. If it's the real ARA, I can likely help you under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. if it's the scam ARA calling you, I can give you, your mom, and your fiance some advice on how to get the calls to stop. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Shannon, ARA, Inc., does NOT have paper work already filed in your county. ARA Incorporated likely wants you to think they have, or are about to, sue you over this Chase Bank debt. ARA will not sue you. It's a scare tactic to get you to make a payment over the phone. Before you do anything, ask yourself the following: 1. Then, I will help you with your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I'll call you to go over your legal options. I've helped tons of consumers like yourself stop harassment from ARA Incorporated.

Hi Tommy, I can only imagine how frustrated you must be with ARA incorporated. ARA did to you what they do to countless consumers. Thankfully, you found my firm. We can help you stop this harassment from ARA incorporated. I can also help you get your $398.77 back from ARA. You are protected under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). If ARA Incorporated violated the FDCPA, you can get money damages, and ARA has to pay my fees and costs. I'll call you so we can discuss your rights and options on the phone. Don't worry though, I can help you. Thanks, Mike.

I got a call today saying they put a levy on my bank account and that i owed a debt i never heard of from 1995 for the amount of 12,968.31 for a settlement offer for 3,987.74 and if I payed today 10% which was 398.77 I would have until the 25th to pay the remainder of 3,588.97. So stupid me paid the 398.77 and After reading all the complaints I think I have been taken for as well. I dont know what to do now. They claimed they put a levy with the county I live in within 72 hours unless I paid. then they would remove it and pay anything that went overdrafft. They been calling me several times a day and my ex wife. sometimes they hang up!

I was contacted by a Yvette Young yesterday about an about an old credit card debt from 2002, Chase bank and was told that there was paper work already filed in my county and that unless I paid them 10% of the ending debt with interest they were going to allow the paper work to be processed. I advised her that I am not working and she then asked why I could not ask my boyfriend Nick, she knew his name. Or use the credit card that I am a authorized user on from my sister!

Hi Kerrie, ARA, Inc., will not take you to court and they will not garnish your wages. These are empty threats geared towards scaring you into making a payment on the phone. I'm glad you disputed the $200 payment you made to ARA. I can also help you dispute the payment directly with ARA. In addition to statutory damages you can get under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you can also get actual damages. Therefore, I can likely get your $200 back from ARA. Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, ARA has to pay my fees and costs too. So, you won't owe me a dime for my help. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Chris, ARA, Inc.'s, address is 1919 S Highland Ave Suite 225A, Lombard, IL 60148. I can send them a cease and desist letter for you free of charge. I can also stop the harassing calls. You have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Let's discuss your rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike. I can also be reach at 888-572-0176 or at michael@agrusslawfirm.com

I received a call on my cell phone today from ARA telling me i had an outstanding debt with Chase bank and since I have been ignoring their letters, they were calling me. I told them I have never received a letter from them and did not owe Chase Bank any money. I asked that they stop calling me and that all future contact be via mail. They told me to hold and transfered me to a gentleman that said he was with the legal dept. I told him if he was with the legal department that he should know that I had asked to be contacted only by mail. He then told me that we were way past that stage and I had no such right and that he would call whenever he wanted. At this point I told him again that all future contact must be made in writing by mail and I hung up. I called back to get their address so I could send them a letter and the gentleman would not give it to me. He transferred me to "legal" and I got a voice mail!

ARA call me saying i owe 7699.00 and they will settle for 2000.00 they also threaten to garnish my wages and take me to court on a card that know one have record of.i paid them 200.00 already but i disputed the charges with my bank please help!

Hi Luna, Did ARA threaten anything while you were on the phone with them? Did ARA say they were going to sue you, get a judgment, lien your property, take you to court, garnish your wages, etc.? These are the type of threats my other clients have experience with ARA. I can help you stop the harassment. I can also help you get your money back they you paid on your credit card. I'll call you to discuss your rights and options. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Martin, don't pay ARA until you speak with me first. ARA collects on debts that 20+ years old. I'm not surprised that this is over 10 years old. Please fax or e-mail the letter from ARA to me. My fax is 312-253-4451 and my e-mail is michael@agrusslawfirm.com I've helped plenty of people with ARA. I'm sure I can help you too. Plus, I'll help you check your credit report to make sure this debt is not on it. Thanks, Mike.

They haven't been on any credit report for many years if they ever were. I do work Tuesdays through Saturdays though, so Sunday or Monday would be the only days that I am available. Thanks!

I'm on the phone with them now .asking me for payment. I just provided them with my card info. Help!

Hi John, I can help you stop the harassment from ARA. I will ensure ARA no longer calls you. Don't worry about ARA being on your credit report. ARA does not report on credit reports. You should check your credit report at least once a year. Here's a link with information on how to check your credit report https://www.agrussconsumerlaw.com/get-a-free-credit-report/ Please do contact me if you'd like my help. I've helped tons of people stop ARA harassment. I'm sure I can help you too. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Heather, even though you could not find ARA on the TN Collection Agencies verification page, ARA is a legitimate collection agency. ARA's office is about 25 miles west of downtown Chicago. ARA does not have have a judgment against you. You do not have to pay ARA $3000.00. Please fax ARA's letter to me at 312-253-4451 and then call me at 312-224-4695 so we can discuss your rights. You can also reach me at michael@agrusslawfirm.com I can help you under the federal debt collection law that governs ARA. You have rights and I will enforce those rights. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Dave, ARA collects on really old debts. I'm not surprised ARA is collecting on a debt from you that's beyond the statute of limitations. Not only are you protected under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, but you are also protected under the PA state statute. You've done your homework to know your rights under the PA law. I'll call yo so we ca discuss your rights further. ARA cannot threaten you with legal action on a debt beyond the SOL. I can help you! Thanks, Mike.

Hi Gerald, ARA would like you to think they are a law firm and that they're going to freeze your account. Fortunately for you, that is not true. ARA will do neither. Fortunately for you too, you found my law firm. We've helped tons of consumers, just like you, stop the harassment from ARA and get money damages. Let's discuss this further on the phone. Thanks, Mike. michael@agrusslawfirm.com 888-572-0176

I HAVE GOTTEN SEVERAL CALLS FROM ARA ABOUT A DEBT FROM 1990-ISH AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THEY ARE A LAW FIRM AND GOING TO FREEZE MY BANK ACCOUNT. I TOLD THEM I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF THIS DEBT AND PLEASE SEND ME INFO IN THE MAIL WHICH I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE YET THEY ARE STILL HARASSING ME!

Well have been harassed by ARA on a account on which the statue of limitations have expired. They also have violated Pa. statutes in the frequency of their calls. Other than that they threaten legal action on and case that the statute had expired I think that what I have given u a case for action!

I received a letter from ARA saying they have a judgment for me and I have to pay $3000. Just trying to check if they have the right to operate in TN. I looked them up on the state Collections Agency verification page and can't find them!

Well Michael…. I find your letter very interesting. But as I mentioned, I have only received one (1) telephone call from these folks… I don’t exactly know why they are calling. But, I suppose that the call might be about one (1) of a handful of six (6) and one half (1/2) year old debt collection. I chose not to talk to these folks… and allow these debts to naturally expire after the mandated seven (7) years. (another 5 months). Under these circumstances, I do not know what you can do for me. I do not feel as if I am currently being harassed. I certainly do not want to make any agreements to pay these debts, because that would only reset a new seven year clock. And presuming that I did pay off these debts, my credit report would continue to report the collection. My best course is … to keep my head low and wait for the collections to expire after the seven years.Even after these collections fall off my credit report, these idiots can still attempt to collect the debt. In such a circumstance, I will contact you to stop the harassment!

Hi Dave, Asset Recovery Associates is a legitimate collection agency located in Lombard, IL. They're pretty aggressive though when collecting debts. It does not surprise me that ARA is demanding payment on a 24+ year old debt and threatening to place a lien on your property if you don't pay. The good news for you is you found my firm. We help consumers stop ARA harassment. You have rights under the law and we will enforce those rights. I'll call you to discuss your rights and options under the law. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Chris, you did the right thing by asking for verification or validation of the debt. You should always ask for proof of a debt in writing before making a payment. This is especially true if some random company calls you on the phone demanding payment on a debt yo're not familiar with. You should double check your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com to make sure neither ARA, Acceptance, LLC, or the bounced check are on there. Then, let's discuss your rights against ARA, Inc.

Hi Greg, a lot of out clients get these type of threats from ARA on debt that's really old or on debt they've never heard of. We can help you like we've done with dozens of consumers being harassed by ARA. I'll call you so we can discuss your rights and options on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

I just got a call from Asset Recovery Associates. They claim that I worked somewhere I've never heard. The extremely rude and combative woman said that I had payed on the account for six years. She said that they would levy my bank account!

Yes company ARA is calling me telling me about a debt that they refuse to give me any information on. Something about a loan agreement with Acceptance LLC from 2015 and bounced check!

ARA contacted me today with my social security number and a debt from 1992-1994 in arizona. They threatened to place a lien if I didn't pay some money now. How would I know that the debt is legitimate. I want to pay if I actually owe, but not if this is a scam. I was just hoping to find a way to see if debt is real!

Hi Kimberlee, ARA will not file a lawsuit, serve papers on you, file a judgment, lien your property, etc. These are some of the many scare tactics ARA uses to get consumers like yourself to make a quick payment on the phone. I'll help you and your mom stop the harassment immediately. I've helped TONS of consumers with ARA and I'm sure I can help you and your mom too. Thanks, Mike michael@agrusslawfirm.com

Hi Deborah, I understand why you think ARA is a sham. But, they are actually a legitimate collection agency. They collect on really old debts and usually scare consumers into making payments. I'm glad you went online and found my firm. I can help you. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Gabe, Chances are if you owe this debt, it's well beyond the statute of limitations and well beyond the time period it could be on your credit report. I'll help you get to the bottom of this. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Paulie, You did the right thing by stopping payment with ARA. You will not get in trouble. Don't worry about any threats ARA may have made to you on the phone. These are just empty threats to scare you into making a payment. I can help you. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Shontrice, ARA should be taking money out of your account. You should dispute this with your bank. I bet your bank will reverse the deduction. if not, I'll help you get your money back from ARA. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Shawn, I'll help you get your money back. No one should be harassing you or taking money from you, especially if you filed bankruptcy. Did you file a chapter 7 or a chapter 13 BK? Let's discuss your rights and options on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Eddie, ARA usually collects on debts that are 10+ years old. That's why your wife does not see this debt on her credit report. This old debt is often times referred to as zombie debt. What number does ARA call from? I'll stop the calls for you. I can also see if ARA violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Theresa, ARA will not put a judgment on you. They make these threats to scare consumers like you into making payments. I will help you stop the harassment. I can also help you try to get your money back that you paid to ARA. The federal debt collection law is a powerful law that protects everyone in the country. You have rights! I will help you enforce those rights. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Harvey, I know how frightening this must be. Don't worry about you. You've come to the right place for help. ARA will not file a judgment against you. They also will not do anything with your social security number. I will help you stop the harassment. Under the law, I can also get you money damages, and ARA will pay my fees. You have nothing to lose by getting help from me. Thanks, Mike michael@agrusslawfirm.com

ARA called twice today to claim they are about to file for judgement but want to give me a chance to pay them first. They have my Social security number which is frightening and used an 10 year old address!

My name is Theresa I got a call from a collection company telling me they were a law office and that if I did not give them good faith money today they would put a judgement on me They said that I had a credit card open from 1999-2003. They guy told me about different places I lived but the places he mentioned did not coincide with with 1999-2003 .The company name is Asset Recovery Associates out of Ill. Let them know that I am very upset so please excuse me if I start to cry. They said that this was a debt from 1999-2003 with a bank I never heard of. I gave them $50 as good faith payment. If I stop all other payments can they put a judgement on me?!

i keep getting calls from a company called ARA they ask for my wife and when i tell them i am not her, they hang up. i called them back and asked them to remove my phone number but they said my wife owes a debt and the calls will keep coming. my wife checks her credit report for any old debts and she has none. so i am not sure why they are calling her?!

I talked to someone earlier and they took 20.00 dollars out my account and I filed bankruptcy so no one should be in my account. Ok I'm under bankruptcy and I need my money back Thank u Money was taken out my account unauthorized I really can't tell you much about it but they took 20.00 out my account. Why they taking it out and I didn't ask them!

Money was taken out my account unauthorized I really can't tell you much about it but they took 20.00 out my account. Why they taking it out and I didn't ask them!

I gave some information that's time sensitive to ara I stopped payment Did I do the right thing Will I be in trouble if I don't pay them!

yes. got a call from a rude person claiming that they own a debt that I had for a chace credit card. this according to them was in 1996, and I already had lost a judgement and I was to pay the amount , plus court cost etc. needless to say I was at a loss. this asset recovery associates, seemed to me to be a scam the person sounded not well educated and when he used some words it just did not sound legit. that is why I went to the internet to see if that was the case. I don't ever recall seen such a debt in my consumer report!

I received a letter from the ARA, Inc. demanding I pay a $1700.00 bill from Texaco Oil/ c/c I never had from 1994..how do I stop this? When I looked them up it said it was a sham. this place ARA is suppose to be located in Ill. if I should not be at my phone, please have them leave a message & I will return call...is this going to cost me? I am disablibled on a fixed income ...I just really wanted to know if I should be concerned about this & if any collection agency can actually do this after 24 years. thank you!

I came across this site when investing a phone call from ARA Associates I received a voicemail on the 26th stating that if I do not call back by the end of the business day I would be served papers to appear in court over a online installment loan from 2010 My mother, not even 5 min later got a voice mail with all that information as well asking for me!

Hi Mike, the good news is you found my firm. I can confidently tell you ARA will not sue you, get a judgment, or take any other legal action against you. You have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Under the law, I'll stop the harassment, get you money damages, and ARA will have to pay my fees and costs. Let's discuss your options on the phone. Thanks, Mike michael@agrusslawfirm.com

Hi Vivan, Asset Recovery Associates will not send law enforcement if you don't pay for this debt. Don't worry about ARA asking to speak with your lawyer either. These are all just threats aimed at getting you to pay this debt from 30 years ago. You and your husband should check your credit reports to ensure everything is accurate. You can get free copies of your credit reports at www.annualcreditreport.com If you have any issues getting your credit report, I can help. I can also help you stop the harassment from ARA. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Nadine, yes, if a collection agency leaves a messages on a debtor's voicemail, the collection agency has to say they are collecting on a debt. I'm not surprised ARA did not leave this disclosure for you. I'm also not surprised ARA is collecting on a debt that's 10+ years old. That's how ARA operates. They collect on REALLY old debt. I can help you. Let's talk about your rights and options under the law. Thanks, Mike.

Does a collection agency have to inform you that they ARE a collection agency when they leave you a voicemail? Just asking to determine if it could be a case for your firm to handle against ARA. I just received the call this morning- this is the first call from them. Any debt I had is past the statute of limitations – I imagine they bought some old debt from 10+ years ago when I lost my job and defaulted on some credit cards!

I have been receiving phone calls from ARA Inc. for a couple of weeks. They claim my husband has unresolved debt from approx 30 years ago from a bank he swears he's never had an account with. They want 2,000 to resolve the debt and have threatened to send law enforcement or asked to speak with our attorney. My husband's ex wife provided me with proof that a short time after their divorce, all their debts were paid and settled!

Hi Julie, ARA will not sue yo or have you arrested. Whether you owe this debt or not, you have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I will assert your rights, get you money damages, and ARA will have to pay my fees and costs. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Yesenia, Although this must really scare you, you have nothing to worry about. ARA will not sue you or have legal documents sent to you work or home. These are just empty threats to scare you into making a payment. I will help you exercise your rights and you won;t have to pay me a dime for my time. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Gary, this sounds like the letter you received from ARA after entering into a settlement with them. Before you settle with Kimberly Wallace at ARA, let's discuss your options and rights. For example, do you really owe this debt, how old is this debt, is this debt on your credit report, etc.? Thanks, Mike.

Hi Sherry, that must be annoying. I never understand why collectors call and hang up. If they want to collect a debt, you'd think they's actually try talking with you. Have you received anything in writing? Do you know what the underlying debt is? Let's get to the bottom of this and figure out a game plan for you. I'm here to help. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Stephen, your situation with ARA sounds all too familiar to me. Your 10+ year old debt is beyond the statute of limitations. ARA will not report it to the credit bureaus. ARA will not sue you on it either. ARA will simply scare you into making a payment. I'm glad you find my law firm and that you did not fall for these collection tactics from ARA. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Kristin, ARA will not take legal action against you. I'm confident the debt at issue is beyond the statute of limitations. In the unlikely event the debt is not past the statute of limitations, ARA does not sue people, and therefore, ARA will not sue you. This empty threats violated the federal debt collection law. I'll discuss your rights and options with you on the phone. Thanks, Mike michael@agrusslawfirm.com

Hi Lindsay, ARA likely has your credit report and that's how they know so much personal information about you. I think ARA uses consumers' personal information to scare them into making payments. Fortunately, you found my firm and you did not fall for ARA's scare tactics. I will stop the harassment, get you money damages under the law, and ARA will pay my fees and costs. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Angelia, ARA will not take you to court. ARA will not sue you, take you to court, get a judgment, lien your property, or garnish your wages. These are just some of the scare tactics ARA uses to gt consumers like yourself to enter into payments over the phone. I'll stop the calls to you, your family, and your work. Then, I'll see if ARA violated any debt collection laws, which it sounds like they did. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Vicki, what number or numbers are calling you? ARA uses a bunch of different numbers to call consumers. Once I know the numbers, I can confirm it's ARA calling you. I'll then help you stop the calls. Have you received anything in writing from ARA? Thanks, Mike.

Hi Peter, ARA is legitimate. They're just aggressive too. ARA will not be able to get your money from your accounts. Don't worry about that. Let's talk about your rights, the law and the dent on the phone. I'll call you. Thanks, Mike.

IS ARA A LEGITIMATE COLLECTIONS AGENCY THEY LEFT MESSAGE ON PHONE TODAY SAYING IMPORTANT TO CALL. I THEN CALLED AND THEY SAID I OWED A CREDIT Card 34,ooo.oo from ten years ago and that i could settle for 5,,ooo they said otherwise they would be able to get the money from my accounts!

Hi Heather, I can certainly contact you by e-mail. I totally understand why you do not want to receive any more phone calls. if ARA was calling me, I would be suspicious too of receiving calls from another unknown source. I'll e-mail you some questions to answer and we'll take it from there. Once you feel comfortable to talk on the phone, I'll call you get more details. I'm sure I can help you stop this harassment from ARA. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Mitchell, Asset Recovery Associates will not sue you, take you to court, or send the sheriff's office out to you. These are all scare tactics ARA uses to get consumers like yourself to pay on really old debt. I can help you stop the harassment today. I'll call you so we can discuss your options on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Chris, I'm sorry to hear about your son and your brother. It sounds like you are having a really tough time. I'm sure the last think you need to be worrying about is ARA. I can help you get your money back that you paid to ARA. I can also likely help you under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act for the harassment you've gone through from ARA. I'll call you to discuss your rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Phillip, ARA is likely collecting on a debt you do not owe. Have you ever had a Sprint home phone? ARA collects on debt that can be 10, 15, or even 20 years old? You can double check your credit report to see if this debt is on it. I doubt it is, though. Have you spoken with ARA? Let's talk further on the phone. I'm sure I can help you get to the bottom of this. Thanks, Mike.

I received letter from ARA stating I owed $1811.66 for Sprint Ltd-Local Home Phone Bill. I have never had Sprint as a phone bill. I haven't even had home phone in years. Cell phone thru work!

I am being harassed by ARA, Inc.. When they first called in Oct...I was under a great deal of stress...still not dealing with my Sons death and just had received news that my only living brother has terminal CA. I'm 66yrs old...usually, wd have never fallen for this scam...but, wasn't thinking clearly. Gave them all info and allowed $50 to b taken out of bank monthly!! Yes, I haven't worked in about 18 yrs...due tk work injury...I did have loans out, but not a Master Card...the first call said the debt was from a Verizon Wireless Loan. Never had either! Closed bank account and the guy called yesterday to ask why! Told him, I gave info under duress and was contacting FTC and BBB in Illinois....told him to call back later in day...and would give him my lawyers contact info! Never called!!

I was contacted by ara about a debt owed to American loans from 2014 I was told that I had to call that day by 530 CT before they were going to send my account the courts and Sue me for writing bad check and other really serious claims I setup payments because they debt was from Wyoming and I lived in utah. I payed 688 dollars I was behind a week because of job chance they called said I had to call them before 530 CT again all payments would be knoll and void and would sue me in court. They had the sheriff's office in springville utah call me as well!

First of all, please don't contact me by phone, as I am hard of hearing. I received a letter from Asset Recovery Associates and they stated I owed a debt of $932.74 to Providian Bank. I have not had credit card debt since 2003, so this has to be older than dirt. The letter looked like it was photocopied. Ridiculous.

Hi Charles, ARA will NOT send your alleged debt to the three credit bureaus. This is just a scare tactic ARA uses to try to get consumers, like yourself, to pay zombie debt. Zombie debt is really old debt. It's beyond the statute of limitations, which means you cannot get sued on it. It's also debt that cannot be reported on your credit report. I'll give you more details about the law and your rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

H Audra, Before you started paying this debt did you see if this debt was on your credit report? Also, did you get anything i writing from ARA? Are the payments coming out of your account electronically? Let's discuss all of these questions, and more, on the phone before you make another payment. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Robert, I agree with you that ARA likely buys debt for pennies on the dollar. I'd like to see the 1099 you received. Please fax or e-mail it to me. My fax number is 312-253-4451 and my e-mail address is michael@agrusslawfirm.com Let's see if I can help you with ARA. I've helped over a 100 consumers stop this type of harassment from Asset Recovery Associates. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Jerome, You can should call my office at 888-572-0176. We will ensure Asset Recovery Associates does not do anything against the law. We will also ensure that you know your rights. ARA will not sue you. ARA will not ruin your credit report. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Michael, ARA likley pulled your credit report and that's how they have so much personal information on you. Check your credit report and see if a company called Financial Credit Service, Inc. did an inquiry on your credit report. Don't worry that ARA has your personal information. They will not do anything with you. I can help you. I'll call you. Or, call or e-mail me when you're free. My number is 888-572-0176 and my e-mail is michael@agrusslawfirm.com

Hi Clayton, You just described ARA's business model to a T. I'm glad you are not intimidated by ARA's tactics. I will get the calls to stop. I can also likely get you money damages under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Plus, ARA will pay my fees and costs. You won't pay me a penny. Let's talk further on the phone. Thanks, Mike michael@agrusslawfirm.com

Hi Dana, I hear stories like yours all of the time regarding ARA, Inc. 888-409-5060 is ARA's number. ARA will not put negative information on your credit report. ARA will not take legal action against you. I can help you under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Let's go over your rights and legal options on the phone. I can help you without even filing a lawsuit against ARA. You'll like how fast I can get results for you. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Mitchell, Asset Recovery Associates will not sure you in Wyoming, Utah, and any court for that matter. The threats that your payments are "null and void" are ridiculous. Don't be intimidated by these scare tactics. I will stop the harassment. Let's talk more about your situation on the phone. I'm here to help. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Maria, This is what ARA does--threatens consumers over debt that's 10+ years old. ARA will not put this debt on your credit report. ARA also will not sue you or garnish your wages or take any legal action against you. I can help you. I'll call you to discuss your rights with you on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

I was contacted by this company stating I have a out standing credit card since 2007 they claim I can settle for 1,576.00 the original was 3,000 with penalties late fees. threatening me. don't wont this to damage my credit score!

Was contacted by ara about a debt that was over 4 years old for advanced payday loan they said if I did not call them back they would sue me in court in Wyoming when I lived in. Utah I owed 888 dollars I setup payments made 688 dollars in payments I was one week behind they told me that if I did not pay my last payment today that they would send my account back to the courts and my payments would be knoll and voided. They used a blocked private number when calling multiple times a day and had the sheriff office in springville utah call as well.

The representative that contacted me from ARA was Tyrell (?) McCoy said the first name very quickly so it was hard to catch. Ph. to return call to on vm : 888-409-5060 ext. 3085. I first called the main # asked them to quit calling me, took my name and ph. # to transfer me to whom was calling. I spoke to a gentleman and got some information regarding why the calls. Said I owed Bank of America from 2004-2005 and that they were in the process of garnishing my wages and a court judgement had been placed against me. Said they mailed me letters to my address, which I did not ever receive. I told this man that I disputed this and he transferred me to a fraud department, but then transfer seemed like i was speaking to the same person. After transfer I spoke to another person, giving me the same information about a 2004-2005 debt in an amount of arrears of over 4K. Bank of America. Pending wage garnishment, and my credit accounts were all going to be affected, had information on all my credit cards i have open. verified my SSN etc. I went back and forth saying that I disputed this, gentleman said it was too late to be disputed, why didn't i dispute it in 2006 or so when the letters went out... and that "my account" had been having steady payments for 2004-2005 and that the judge looked at this and the information used when the account was open and had decided that the debt was valid. At this point I asked well, who was paying these payments? He did not have that information and was adamant that he is unable to get that information. Offered me a settlement of over 2,000 dollars that I could use to pay and have no negative information reported against me. I asked him to please submit me more information so that I could look through this request and figure out how to resolve it. I have the information emailed to me here and I will also forward this email to you guys! Email sent came from ccpayments@arainc.us

Asset Recovery keeps calling Me even though I clearly told them 6 times not to call. I am in Perry Michigan. They have lied to Me so many times I can not count. I believe they are trying to call Me from another Number!

I received a call from Asset Recovery Ass. that I owe 3600+ dollars on a credit card from 1986-2004, then got a letter today showing they purchased debt from B.M. F. & Assoc. They have a lot of personal info on me. I do not recognize the credit card as ever being mine what do I do? The collection person is to call me this afternoon!

I was phoned this morning by Assets Recovery Associates. I went onto your website and you recommended to obtain my credit report and sure enough there was an inquiry by Financial Credit Services made today. What should I do?!

They had some bogus claim of unpaid rent. Now they filed a 1099. You know they bought this debt at pennies on the dollar. the 1099 is a total fraud. You can't 1099 more than you paid for the debt.

I have been paying Asset Recovery Associates $100 a month for a credit card I owed from when I was 18 yrs old. I am now 44. I don't have a number to this company to see what my balance is only a name appears on my bank statement. Is this the right company or could you tell me if I am a client of yours. The debt if for First USA bank!

ARA just called on a debt from 1999 and told they were sending the info to the 3 credit bureaus. They claim the debt is from Phoenix from discover!

Hi Tom, the debt is likely beyond the statute of limitations, not on your credit report, and therefore, zombie debt. What did ARA say on the phone when you spoke with them? Did they make any of these threats? Let's talk on the phone before you make a payment. I'll call you. Thanks, Mike michael@agrusslawfirm.com

I recieved aphone call on thursday morning about a dept that occured around 1998-99 I told them to send something on paper and 2 days later on dec. 6 I received a paper reading that if I PAID 2500.00 BY THE 5TH it would be resolved!

Hi Michelle, if the calls you are getting are about a debt you included in your bankruptcy, you are likely getting calls from the real ARA. What number does ARA call from? Have you received a letter from ARA? Both the number(s) and the letter will help me determine if this is the real Asset Recovery Associates. Not only can I help you stop the harassment, but I can also help you with your credit report. Often times, during and after bankruptcy, creditors report inaccurately on credit reports. Click here to find out more about common credit report errors I'll call you so we can further discuss your rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike michael@agrusslawfirm.com

Hi Jenny, This seems like the scam ARA. The real ARA is located at 1919 S Highland Ave Suite 225A, Lombard, IL 60148. Did you get any calls from any other numbers besides 844-336-3854? For example, here are some other numbers ARA may be calling you from 630-884-4630, 630-755-6725, 855-212-0751, 630-557-8258. If it's the real ARA calling, I can help you stop the harassment. If it's the scam ARA calling, here are some suggestions I have for you in order to get the calls to stop. To be certain it's the scam ARA, look at your credit report to ensure everything is accurate. You can get a free copy of your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com Next, follow my suggestions below to help stop the calls: 1. Do not answer their calls, 2. Block their phone number, 3. Tell your family, coworkers, etc., to ignore their calls, too, 4.

Hi Jessica, don't worry about the alleged "paperwork filed against you." ARA did not sue you. ARA would never sue you. They just make these type of threats to scare consumers into making payments. You are not alone. Take a look at the other dozens of comments on this page. Fortunately, you find the right place to help you. I will stop the harassment, get you money damages, and the ARA will pay my fees and costs. You won't pay me a dime for my services. Let's discuss this further on the phone. I'll call you. Thanks, Mike.

I just received a call from Jessica Johnson representing ARA and she wants to speak with me about paperwork filed against me and that they were verifying employment today December 28, 2017. I didn’t answer because I didn’t recognize the phone number but they used a NM phone number ‭+1 (575) 449-3190‬. No more information just that!

I have been receiving calls from the number 844-336-3854. First of all, is this an actual ARA number or scam number? They claim to be ARA. Anyway, they kept calling me telling me that my brother was going to be arrested if he did not pay an old debt, which I'm unsure if the debt was even real. She then proceeded to say me and my entire family would be subpoenaed to court if they cant get ahold of him. Anyway, they asked me to confirm my SSN and date of birth. I asked the woman why she needed my SSN. She told me she already had it and that she just needed to confirm it. Not believing her, I told her to read off my SSN. So she read off my correct SSN. At this point I was shocked and concerned. I never gave out my SSN, and on top of that, how would they have obtained my SSN if the situation is about my brother?? I never consigned for him. I am unsure what to do and if my identity is in danger, knowing they have my SSN , as well as DOB, full name, and address...they also had a lot of information on my brother and mother!

I received a call from the same number stating Thai had committed fraud and they are sending me to court in the city I live in. They also contacted my ex husband who received a call from them stating the same. They had his phone nu.ber and social as well ad mine. I am not sure if it was a scam or if it was real. I just filed bankruptcy and the company they are calling me on behalf is one of my creditors on the bankruptcy.

Hi Noah, They are probably harassing you on a debt you don't owe. About 20% of my clients are getting harassed on debts they don't owe. Whether you owe the debt or not, I can help you. Debt collection laws (Federal and state) apply to debts owed or alleged to be owed. We can go over your rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Tamara, that's great advice! I can also pursue a case for you against ARA for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Under the FDCPA, I'll get ARA to stop harassing you, get you money damages (up to $1000), and ARA has to pay my fees and costs. I'll call you so we can discuss this on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Warren, are you dealing with the real ARA in IL or the scam ARA? The easiest way to figure this out is to look up the number calling you. Most scam companies harass consumers on debt owed to pay day loans companies. I'll call you so we can further discuss your situation on the phone. Please have the number ARA called from handy so we can get to the bottom of this. Thanks, Mike,

Hi Lorie, I agree with you 100% that you should not pay a debt until you have proof that it's owed. ARA will not get a default judgment entered against you. Don't worry about that. Also, there is a statute of limitations on the debt. It's like the debt ARA is collecting on is beyond the statute of limitations. Either way, I can help you. I will get ARA to stop harassing you ASAP. We'll discuss your rights and the law on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Daren, I know why you think you were scammed. I can help you. ARA will not put this debt on your credit report. I can get your money back, plus get you money damages under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, AND BEST PART OF ALL, ARA will pay my fees and costs. You won't pay me a penny for my time. I'll call you to discuss your rights further. Thanks, and happy holidays. Mike.

ARA called me and threatened me that if I did not pay a bill from a long time ago to a company that is no longer in business, scared me into thinking that this would go onto my credit report. I shelled out almost 2000.00 to this place and am now finding out I was scammed!

Hi Jean, this is 100% off. The debt is likely not collectible. Don't pay a penny without speaking to my office first. If the debt is actually legit, I'll give you some suggestions on how to settle it. You'll want something in writing, and you'll also want your credit report updated, if applicable. We can discuss all of these issues on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Carol, this is exactly what ARA does. They client on 20+ year old debt, beyond the statute of limitations, and they make empty threats of legal action that they CANNOT take under the law. I'm glad you found my firm. We can certainly help you. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Bryan, this sounds like ARA to me. We've helped dozens of consumers stop ARA harassment. I'm confident we can help you to. Once I know the number ARA called from, I can verify it's them, stop the harassment, and likely get you money damages. Plus, ARA will have to pay my fees. You won't pay me a penny. I'll call you to go over all of your rights on the phone. If we don't connect on the phone, please call me at 888-572-0176. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Shawnaci, it looks like we were able to help you, too. It's wild that ARA threatened you with a lawsuit when they had no intention of suing you. But, that's what ARA seems to do these days. It looks like we got you a fast result, and you didn't have to pay us a penny. I wish all consumers harassment by ARA knew what we can do for them. At least we help you, and several others on this page. Please let me know if you ever have another consumer-related issue. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Linda, it looks like we signed you up as a client and got you a favorable result. I'm glad we could help you. ARA is rather aggressive with its collection tactics. Please leave us a review at https://www.agrussconsumerlaw.com/client-testimonials/ Often times, consumers don't know their rights and don't know we can help them. If you leave us a review, other consumers will see we are here to help. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Jania, that's an excellent first step to contact your bank and dispute the payment. You should also check your credit report to make sure nothing is inaccurate on it. You can get a free copy at www.annualcreditreport.com I'll call you so we can discuss your rights and options on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Sheng, Thanks for contacting my office. It looks like we already signed you up as a client. I'm glad we can help you stop the harassment. Once you get you a favorable result, please let my office a review. Referrals from our clients are some of our best sources of business. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Gina, I can only imagine what it must be like to have a company read your social security number to you on the phone. I bank with USAA, and last week, was a victim of identity theft. Someone called my bank, pretended to be me, had my SS#, address, DOB, etc. This is really scary, and it must have been for you, too. I'm here to help. I will get ARA off your back. Please call me back at 888-572-0176 or e-mail me at michael@agrusslawfirm.com Thanks, Mike.

Hi Gina, ARA will not force close any of your credit cards. They cannot do this. It's an empty threat to scare you into making a payment. What number did ARA call from? I'll call you verify it's them. I'm 99% sure I can help you based on the information provided in your comment. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Hillary, ARA does not have a judgment against you. ARA makes these threats to consumers like you to get you to make a payment on the phone. Don't pay ARA without speaking with my office first. Our number is 888-572-0176. You can also e-mail me directly at michael@agrusslawfirm.com I can help you. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Vonnie, I can help you get your money back--no joke. ARA is notorious for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ("FDCPA"). If ARA violated the FDCPA, which it sounds like they did, you can get statutory damages up to $1000 PLUS any actual damages. I will make sure you get your money back. Plus, ARA will be reponsible for my attorney's fees. You won't pay me a penny for my time. I'll call you to discuss this further. Or, you can always reach me at 888-572-0176 or by e-mail at michael@agrusslawfirm.com Thanks, Mike.

Hi Jennifer, if ARA is calling you, I completely understand why you think you've been a victim of a scam and/or unfair debt collection. ARA is pretty aggressive when they collect debts. I'll call you so you can tell me what number ARA called from, or if you've received anything in writing from ARA. Once we know it's ARA calling, i'll give you some advice on how to stop the harassment, plus even get money damages. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Beto, ARA will not arrest you over any debt. ARA does not have a warrant for you and cannot get one, either. Let me know what number ARA called from, and I'll let you know if this is the real ARA or a scam company that goes by a similar name as ARA. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Pamela, ARA does not have a judgment entered against you. ARA likely made this threat to get you to make a lump-sum payment on the phone. Before anyone pays a debt from a third-party debt collector, I always suggest the following: 1. Do I really owe this debt? 2. Is this debt within the statute of limitations? 3. Is this debt on my credit report? 4. If I pay this debt, will it be removed from my credit report? 5. If I pay this debt, will the original creditor remove it from my credit report? 6. If I pay this debt, will I get something in writing confirming the payment and settlement terms?

Hi Sharon, do not pay ARA until you get something in writing from them. If it's a phantom debt that you do not owe, then you should not pay it. ARA is known to collection on debt that's over 20 years old, not on credit reports, and WAY BEYOND the statue of limitations. I'll go over your rights and options with you on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Gary, the phone numbers in your comment appear to be from Asset Recovery Associates, aka ARA, Inc. ARA does not have a summons, they have not filed any charges again you, and there's no case number. These are all scare tactics ARA uses to get innocent consumers, like yourself, to pay debts over the phone. Double check your credit report to make sure there's no zombie debt on it. If you have a mistake on your credit report, there is a process to dispute them. My office will help you pull your credit report and dispute any inaccurate information. If a credit reporting agency violates its obligations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), you may be entitled to statutory damages up to $1,000.00, plus the credit reporting agency will be required to fix the error. The FCRA also has a fee-shift provision. This means, the credit reporting agency pays your attorney’s fees and costs. Therefore, you will not pay me a penny for my time. Please let me know if you’d like my help. To speed up the process, please get a free copy of your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com You can also learn more about the FCRA and your rights at http://www.agrussconsumerlaw.com/practices/common-credit-report-errors/

Hi Larry, ARA is threatening you over things that are not true. No attorney referred your account to Asset Recovery Associates. I'm sure you don't have a debt from Radio Shack, and I'm sure this alleged debt is not on your credit report. We can help you stop the harassment from ARA. I'm helped out hundreds of consumers stop ARA. I'll call you to discuss your rights. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Debbie, ARA will not freeze your accounts or garnish your wages. Asset Recovery Associates does not sue over debts. Without a lawsuit, there cannot be a judgment. Without a judgment, neither your accounts can be frozen nor your wages garnished. We can help you stop the harassment, get money, and ARA will be responsible for our fees. I'll call you to discuss your rights further. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Carol, ARA will not sue you. I know this must be scary when someone calls you and says they have a legal matter with your social security number. We've help so many people with ARA. I'm confident we can help you, too. I'll call you so we can discuss your rights under the law. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Kenneth, Asset Recovery Associates will not sue you. ARA, Inc., uses this type of scare tactic (threats of legal action, threats of judgment, etc.) to get consumers like yourself to make payments over the phone. I'm glad you found my firm. I can help you. I'll call you so we can discuss your rights on the phone. In short, I'll stop the harassment, get you money (if ARA violated the law), and ARA will pay my fees and costs. You won't pay me a dime for my time. Thanks, Mike.

This morning I was called by Asset Recovery Associates, saying I was going to be sued to be sued in Macon County for over $7,000.00 by MB&A for non-payment originally by Bank of America, I think. I told the lady I had no idea what she was talking about because all my credit card debt I owed was taken care through a credit counseling firm in Texas years ago. She transferred me to a Tammy Bloomberg who supposedly had all the information on my case. She said no this debt was not covered under the credit counseling and was still owed. I am disabled now, and the call shook me to the core, I live on a fixed income and fear got the best out of me. To make a long story short, I ended up like her, put $1,500.00 payment to ARA on my Walmart Credit Card and a Bank Transfer of $1,600.00 on my Citi Card to ARA. They want me to do another $1,262.00, on two other cards, then they will give a letter of no debt settling for $4,362.00. I don't know what to do!

I have received two calls from ARA today and someone came to my door unannounced. I did not answer the door and do not know who it was. I do not know why this company is calling me and I want this harassment to stop. I have received calls from unidentified callers stating that there is a legal matter associated with my social security number.

ARA in Il called looking for an old roommate, then said I had co signed on a credit card in 1995 and I'm responsible. I told them no, I didn't and was told, very rudely, that someone paid it for 5 years and I needed to take care of this or my accounts will be frozen and my wages garnished. SOL is 4 years in Texas and wages can't be garnished for this. They said the original debt was 8000 but now I owe 14000 and that it's on my credit report (it's not). Now today I received a letter asking for immediate payment.

Just got a call from ARA believe his name was. Logan. 630-282-6942 told me that their office was referred by an attorneys office for non payment of a 2200.00 debt that I had with Radio Shack. I have never had any kind of account with radio shack and didn't even know they operated that way. He said that this has been on my credit report when i told him that i never had an account with them he said its on your report why didnt you dispute it and when I talked further with him he hung up I called back and asked for the rude individual that I spoke to and they connected me again he asked me if. I would confirm my address and ss # it is a calif area code but i now live in memphis. This is ridiculous where do get off trying to intimidate me with a court action. Im an ex cop and he just picked on the wrong person. He told that the debt was from 1999 when i lived in san diego I told even if i had a debt that far back no one could go after me and he shouted back dont you dictate terms to me!

I getting call from a debt collector and leaving a message on my answer machine. Gary, I'm contacting you from the process summons division. I'm calling to notify you that there will be two charges file against you in your county. Look Like fraudulent activity has been attached to your name and to your social security number. Gary, I do need to make you aware of your legal rights which address your charges prior to be filed against you. You need to do so before you receive your summons at your place of employment or at your home address. Once your served your rights will be forfeited. Your case number is. JCW830602. Their telephone number is 804-420-4838. You would need to speak to someone in their legal department. They have been calling me on other number 866-806-1840, 800-845-1124, 203-693-8173!

I received a call from ara about an online payday loan for Bank of America in 2009 Sure what do you need to know I don't recall having a bank account with BOA back in 2009 I believe at that time my bank was wells Fargo. Should I pay them!

I received a call from Asset Recovery Associates in January 2016 claiming I Had a Judgement set to be in effect by the end of that week on an old debt. I work late evenings and was woken up by this call and not thinking very clearly at the time. I provided banking information so they could take small amounts of money out of my account monthly with a large lump sum due at the end of March 2016. They called about the lump sum due and stated I Was to send it in the form of a cashier's check, NOT a money order. This made me wonder if this is a scam. I called them today to ask who the original creditor was and the contact info for them and original contract terms. Was told they are no longer in business but ARA was contracted to collect this debt. This debt is no longer on my credit report so the statute of limitations must have expired. I have not sent cashier's check and would like to know what to do next. Please call between 09:30 & 12noon. THANKS. I believe ARA committed wire fraud with false threatening comments. Pamela Landry When I called today I spoke with Kelly Stein and was then transferred to Craig Wilshire when I asked for the original creditor info. He gave me the run around and then threatened to have a judgement placed against me for the whole amount and the lump sum settlement was off the table. I also questioned him as to what part of my payment would go to the original debt and why a cashier's check instead of a money order. BIG RUN AROUND and threatening tone. Thank you and goodnight!

Got a call from ARA claiming I took out a payday loan, which I didn't.. They had most of my information but were fishing to get a time frame of when and where I worked when I got this supposed loan.. they said I was going to get arrested due to a warrant for fraud... I told them I took out no such loan and they have been calling ever since... this took place earlier today. That's all I can think of at moment Thank you, Gina!

Hi Theresia, I've heard this from other consumers dealing with Asset Recovery Associates. It's scary that ARA had your complete social security number. Often times, consumers hear their fully SS#, think the debt is legitimate, and then make a payment on the phone. My general rule of thumb is never pay anyone on the phone that calls you. I can likely help you like I've helped so many other consumers with ARA. Let's further discuss your situation on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Scott, I'm glad to hear you know your rights and you got ARA off of your back. So many consumers are not well-versed in the FDCPA, and get scared into a making payment on the phone. Reporting this conduct to the AG's office and to the BBB will help protect other consumers. Keep up the good work asserting your rights! Thanks, Mike.

Hi Shawn, I'm not aware of any class actions filed against ARA. However, I've helped 100s of consumers stop the harassment by ARA. You are protected under a federal law called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Under the FDCPA, I will stop the calls, get you money damages, and ARA will have to pay my fees. We can further discuss your rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Sharon, the ARA Inc. with a mailing address in Villa Park is legitimate. I'm not surprised your bank has never heard of Asset Recovery Associates. Usually, ARA collects are really old debt. You should check your credit report t make sure there's nothing unusual on it. Here's some more information about your credit report rights https://www.agrussconsumerlaw.com/practices/common-credit-report-errors/ I'll also call you so we can discuss your rights and options regarding ARA, Inc. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Greg, this does not surprise me. Asset Recovery Associates collects on debt that's really old and also collects on debt that consumers have not heard of. You should check your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com to make sure everything is accurate. If your credit report is accurate, then I would not worry about the underlying debt. I can help you stop the calls. Let's discuss your options and rights on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Christine, There are two ARA companies. One is a legitimate and the other is scam company. I think the number 866-311-9662 is from the scam company. Have you received anything in writing? The real ARA, Inc., although aggressive, will sends you something in writing. The real ARA is located at 1919 S Highland Ave #225a, Lombard, IL 60148, 888-686-9475. Let's figure out who is harassing you and then I'll get the harassment to stop. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Judy, I'd suggest that you block ARA's number on your cell phone. If you accidentally answer ARA's call, just hang up. Let you mother know the same thing about ARA, so they stop harassing her, too. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Christina, your comment does not surprise. This type of conduct seems consistent with Asset Recovery Associates. ARA Inc seems to make these types of threats on the phone and then demands payment on the phone. Did you make a payment to them on the phone? Hopefully, not. I can help you either way. Let's discuss your rights on the phone. You can also always reach me at 888-572-0176 or michael@agrusslawfirm.com Thanks, Mike.

Hi I have gotten a call from ARA and Associates telling me I'm being sued for a debt. They also called several family members. How can I stop this? They said I got a loan from VIP which I don't recall. Now they are telling me to pay them over the phone $350 or I have to appear in court!

I have been receiving many calls every day from this debt collector. They are now calling my mothers' home and threatening to contact my employer. This is a debt for IGGY loans which is a payday loan. I Have talked with the commissioner of financial regulation for the state of Maryland and have been told that this company is doing business illegally in the state of maryland. they told me that I am under no obligation to pay this company and there is nothing they can do but harass me!

I received just 2 voicemail's from a lady claiming to be from a legation's unit with my county. She left me a number 1866-311-9662 and a case number to reference said I had fraudulent checks and was being reported to the county clerk office. I called back and ask for the name of the company and the gentlemen that answered told me ARA, I have heard of them because I am repairing my credit and they refuse to budge off my report yet they have no proof I owe them anything. When I told the lady this was a very old debt and I dont remember anything such as a pay day she yelled at me told me they are going to garnish my wedges and told my i had issues and was rude. I asked her when the account was filled and how she got this number..it was only a few months old ,she refused to answer told me to contact my court office because I am going to be sued and hung up on me? She was extremely upset that i refused to pay her and that i was questioning everything. Serious scare-tactics..just upsetting how they got my number

I've been getting harassed by asset recovery associates. Saying I owe an old debt of like $2,300. From original creditor I never heard of!

I received a letter from ARA INC out of villa park IL saying that they are representing my bank and that I owe a large amount of money. I called the bank and they do not know anything about this. It started off with calls from several different numbers saying that I was committing bank fraud and that they was gonna contact the courts about a matter that I do not even know any thing about. Today I received a letter with my bank name on it saying that they was representing the bank , I called the bank to find out why I was receiving a letter from collection agency they had know I deal of what I was talking about or had they ever heard of ARA INC!

ARA has bee harassing me for a 17 year old debt that was a sign off. Their representative, who called himself "Mr. Newman", was abrasive and threatening. I told him to not call again and informed him I would report their outfit to the FCC for action. Speaking of action as the case usually goes for these sort of vampiric outfits, is there any class action currently in effect against ARA? If so, I want in! Thank you for your consideration and free evaluation, it's much appreciated!!!

Got a call from these a-holes just recently. Fortunately, I know my rights and know exactly where I stand from a legal perspective. I schooled the poor sap who called me on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, before telling him he could rot in Hell. Then, after I lodged complaints about their CLEARLY illegal collection practices with the Illinois Attorney General's office and also with the BBB, they slinked away with their proverbial tail between their legs. Haven't heard a peep from them since. Know your rights. Stand your ground and don't be intimidated by their threats. Fear is the weapon they use against people. If you stand your ground and stare them down, they will go away. That's how cowards and bullies respond when you stand up to them.

Just recieved mail from Asset Recovery Associates stating I owe 4,752.79. Said I owed it to Ge Capitol Consumer Credit. Called GE Consumer Credit, dont have account there , never have. This person was able to read my entire Ss number yo me. And swore by GOD I forgot about this old debt and needs to pay now.

I believe I may be the victim of a scam or unfair debt collection. ARA and I believe the other company is DRP. Please contact me

I just had the same thing happen to me. I received a phone call from ARA and had no clue what was going on. They told me that they had a judgement against me in my county. I have excellent credit and my identity has been stolen for at least 10 years. I explained that to the person on the phone and yesterday I received a letter from ARA stating that I owed over $16,000 dollars from some bank I have never heard of. I have agreed to have Agruss Law Firm represent me as I have no idea what ARA can do to me!!!

The ARA have been harassing my mother over a debt that they claim she owes from back when she and my father were still married, probably back around 20 years ago now. Before she told me what was going on so I could research the company, she ended up paying them $499 on one of her credit cards and promised another $1000 by check - which I stopped. The next morning they sent us a letter via FedEx claiming to thank us for the $1000 that they never received and then said they were going to take another $1400 out of the account (which would be impossible as we closed the account as soon as we realized that the ARA is bad news). Yesterday, Monday 3/13, she received a call from them claiming that they were going to seek action on a bounced check, mind you the bounced check was one they tried to collect from a closed account without authorization. She tried to go to our local sheriff's department this morning to report the harassment but the officer she spoke to basically told her there was nothing she could do but pay, that he had been in a similar situation and he paid it. I know there is no way that that can be true, given that the statute of limitations in Florida is only four years, and this is well beyond that point. Is there anything that we can do, or has she doomed herself to paying them now that she's given them the $499 on her credit card? Thank you for your assistance.

My wife received a phone call from ARA yesterday 03/03/2017 informing her that they were calling to collect a debt from Citibank. She has not had an account with Citibank since 1997 and her credit reports are clean, no derogatory marks and public records. They lady from ARA told my wife that they had already filed a judgement against her in our current county. We called our county clerk and they show no judgements or pending judgements. We recently bought a car and few months ago and that's when these calls started. She has received no written documentation of this or any kind of formal lawsuit proceedings. Is this cause for concern? What should she do?

ARA Inc called this morning. I also just left a comment on your site seeking help. They called saying I owe money back in 2000 threatening they will force close my current credit cards if I don't settle this debt right away and file a law suit against me.

I just received a call from ARA INC. The gentlemen said I owe about 5000 back in 2002, which I can't remember. What's more scary is that the person who called just read out my full social security number and they also had all my current credit card number, threatening that they will force close my current account if I do not agree to pay over the phone or settle right away, I told them I need to see something in writing and need to confirm with issuing bank since I do not remember anything and this person keep saying "let me be honest with you, if you don't settle right away, we will sue you and see you in court", I just hung up on him. I have no clue how can they obtain so much personal information and be so rude. Please let me know what needs to be done to stop this and find out what I need to do to make sure to stop this scam.

ARA called on January 16th saying that my husband owed 10,000 and they were about to file a lawsuit at my local court. I know my husband didn't get credit card for 10,000. But today I received a letter that he owes 21,683.01. Please help because the letter said that if I do not respond within 30 days then the office will assume that the debt is valid. I checked and his credit reports does not show a debt in collection.

I'm in Dallas TX And this company was able to get receive payment from me. I have already contacted my bank.

I got a phone call from ARA Monday morning just before 9 a.m. but didn't answer because I didn't get to bed til 4 a.m. and didn't want to be bothered. The phone then rings again shortly after noon (I had had my eyes open literally 5 minutes by this time...) and I answer it. I saw that the caller ID said Lombard IL and figured it was just another spam caller, so I'm even surprised I answered it in the first place. At any rate, the voice on the other end identified himself as Logan from ARA, a debt collection agency looking for resolution on a debt incurred in 2002, the last payment of which was paid (January) 2003 to Metris. He said the amount owed was 21k, most of which was interest (and that that really was unreasonable), so he would settle for 3575.and some odd cents (I can't remember now what it was...) I told him if I had that much I'd be rich and he told me I could put it on a credit card, that he saw I had several cards that could take that amount. He told me this debt was listed on all three credit reports (and I'm not really sure it is, but I don't know for sure) and if I refused payment, he would start litigation, freeze (or close, I don't remember which) all my credit cards and garnish my bank account. I told him I'm on Social Security and that that can't be garnished, and I don't remember what he said to that. I also told him my account was co-owned with a friend. He said it didn't matter and that I'd better tell my friend the acct would be garnished. (For the record, the account is only used for bill paying, so there's never anything it other than what needs to be there to pay bills. We both have separate personal accts. for anything else.) This person was a bully and had me so totally frazzled (remember, I had only been awake maybe 5 minutes when he called) he had me in tears. My married daughter was upset by what she was hearing but didn't interfere. I didn't know what was going on for the life of me and this *WAS* the first time I had ever been contacted by anyone regarding this debt. So, he keeps pushing for me to put this debt on another credit card and kept asking if I had received any checks from Discover that I could do a balance transfer on, and I told him I had, but didn't keep them because I never had any intention of using them (because their interest rate is too high). He kept pushing me to use them even though I told him repeatedly I didn't have any of those offer letters/checks on hand! It was then he said he would do a conference call to Discover where I could ask for one of their balance transfer offers for this debt. Then, it was discovered there wasn't quite enough space left on my card to transfer this balance and Logan's supervisor interrupted and said she would wave the 300.00 I think it was that my card couldn't take, but then she "accidentally" disconnected her end (ARA) of the conference call leaving me with Discover alone and that discount never happened. Somewhere before being disconnected, however, Logan said to call him back and let him know how the debt was handled, never giving me any call back info. So, while I'm trying to figure out what's going on with a balance transfer, not enough room to put it on the card, and Discover asking me if I needed a credit increase to cover the amount, ARA/Logan is trying to call me back non-stop on the other line. I finally put Discover on hold and told him I was talking to them, and he said he was sorry he missed my call back.... I told h

Just got a call from ARA and it was about a card from 2001. He was pushing me to pay on the phone but how do I know he is real. I do remember having that card back then, can't remember what happened.

My sister, who use to be on my mobile family plan, was called today 3 TIMES! She told the last on the first call, that her number is no longer on my family plan and that she owns the number, but she would give me the info. She still called two more times after that. I called 2nd spoke to the first young lady...VERY rude. When I tried to get info on who the company was/is...she kept cutting me off and told me that she'd rather see my case go to court. She then transfered the call to a super is or who was even more rude!!! Long story short...the loan was allegedly from 2012...had a wrong D.O.B...wanted ME to pay $500+ in the next 10 minutes before she walked into court. What can be done because I don't want to keep receiving these calls.

They sent me a letter stated I owed 22,000 for a debt that is over 20 years old. They said the amount is due to interest. This is the first time I have heard about this

I received two calls today from ARA about a debt they say I owe from 1994, last payment made 2006. Charged off 9/2011. They have checked my credit report and said they will put a lien on all my available credit and have contacted my bank. Also said they will file a judgement at 10:00 am I the morning if I don't call back in the morning and pay $250,00 down. They said the judgement is for $19,957.00 but they will accept $5,000. This seems a little off to me. Is the debt really collectable?

I received a hateful collection call from ARA on 11/18. Lady ended up hanging up on me because I told her I was not going to pay anybody anything until I had proof that I owed it. Because she said she was going to file her default judgment, I called them back this morning to get details of her claim. Spoke with Stephanie Yates, Ext 3085. Said I owed Norwest Bank against a contract dated 10/14/96. Wells Fargo bought the account and it was written off on 02/2002. She said the original amount was $2,784 but with penalties and interest it is $6,649. I have 30 days to pay the full amount or they will obtain a judgment and file it in the San Bernardino, CA court since that's where I live. (I have never lived in San Barnardino, CA but my step-daughter did, Lori Smith, who is now deceased. I do not recall ever doing business with Norwest. I did have an account with Wells Fargo Bank in the 90s. Even so, I inquired as to the statute of limitations even if the collection/contract were valid. She said there wasn't a statute of limitation on this debt. There is nothing on my credit report and to my knowledge never has been from Norwest. I am retired from the United States District Court in Tyler, Texas and am not totally ignorant of collection matters. From what I've read about ARA, they are somewhat unethical in their collection practices. I don't know if this is something your firm is interested in pursuing or not. The lady confirmed that there is no lawsuit pending against me in this matter. Guess they will just walk into the courtroom and get their judgment. Very upsetting! I was hoping someone had filed a class-action lawsuit against these folks, but found nothing on the web. Please let me know if your firm is interested in pursuing cleaning up this mess.

Hi Rebekka, I can help you. I'm 99% confident there is not a judgment against you on this debt. I'll help you stop the calls, check your credit report for unusual activity, and let you know if you have a consumer case under various state and federal loans. Whatever you do, do not give this company any personal information over the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Colleen, This sounds like the scam asset recovery associates to me. Usually the scam ARA is associated with payday loans. Have you taken out a payday loan before? You should check your credit report to make sure nothing unusual is on it. Then, ignore the calls. We can discuss some other options on the phone, too. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Rebecca, I can help you fix this right away. If the debt is 20 years old, and not on your credit report, you do not have to worry about being sued over this debt. I will help[ you get something in writing from ARA. I will also help you check your credit report to see if this debt is on it. If ARA threatened you with court action over this debt, you have a case under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I'll call you so we can discuss your rights and options over the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Sarah, Never pay any debt without first seeing something in writing. Legitimate collection agencies will always send you something in writing. Second, check your credit report to see if this debt is on it. If this debt is 20 years old and not on your credit report, then you do not have worry about getting sued over this debt. Threatening you with litigation on a debt that's 20 years old sounds like ARA, Inc., to me. I've helped plenty of consumers just like you stop this type of harassment by ARA. Let's discuss your rights and options on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Sandra, I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing such offensive phone calls. No one should have to deal with this type of conduct. I'll help you stop the calls. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Laura, There's a legitimate ARA in Illinois, and then there's a scam ARA company that usually scams people on payday loans. Have you received a letter from ARA? Let's talk on the phone to see if it's the scam ARA harassing you. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Maria, Don't worry about ARA putting a lien on your house. It's just a scare tactic. If your debt is over 20 years old, I'm confident it's beyond the statute of limitations. If it's beyond the statute of limitations, you cannot be sued over it. If you can't be sued over the debt, then there will never be a judgment or a subsequent lien. I will help you take care of this type of harassment by ARA. Thanks, Mike.

I'm going through the same thing in a Payday check go

I received a call from Asset Recovery Associates they said a lien was going to be put on my home. According to them there is an outstanding account which is almost 20 years. I don't want my home to be in jeopardy.

ARA has called my family and myself threatening a larceny charge from a pay day loan over 2 years ago. Please help! The associates name is Janice Doyle and the phone number is 866-523-5880.

Receive several calls on sept 22 2016 and the gentlemen told me to get my broke ass off his phone

They are telling me I need to pay a debt that is almost 20 yrs old and under my married name - Sarah Langan. Do I really not have to pay them? Case number 2597406. They did the whole going to court for litigation threat with me as well.

Colleen, I feel for you the same thing happened too me, get there fax number and address and send a cease and decease letter. Look at your state statue of limitations on debt most states are 7 years, but once you give them money for the debt your acknowledging it and it will restart. Next keep all information who you spoke with the numbers they called you from. Who they called and gave your personal information too. Submit a complaint with your state Attorney Generals office, The State of Illinois Attorney Generals Office and the BBB for Northeast Chicago. What they are saying is illegal claiming to be a law firm as well as a clerk of courts, also keep all voicemail's. This should help you and get them to stop calling until they change the name of their Business again.

I received a call from ARA stating I owed a credit card from 1997. i was stupid enough to give them one of my credit cards which I since cancelled. i gave them a down payment of good faith for $25 because I am 62 yrs old and still working. I am on a very fixed budget and was scared that they would take me to court which they said would be Sept 29, 2016 and my check would be garnished. They had all my info and switch you to reps and auditors convincing you that they are a legitimate co. The reason I gave them the down payment was because they stated they would reduce my debt to $2800. but that I must pay the balance by 9/29/16. I'm waiting for them to call me back on that day for the rest of the payment.

Beth Strickland with a company she called ara litigations with a phone number of 8665235880 ex 108 called my place of employment several times yesterday and spoke with at least 3 people about needing to speak with me about litigations and a legal matter. I work at a school and she tried to talk to my principal but was intercepted by her secretary. She offered to give the secretary my social security number. It was harassment. I asked her to please not call me and work. What can I do? Thank you.

I received a very harassing and condescending call from ARA associates. I am wondering what I can do. They have called numerous times and I don't pick up. They leave messages saying I have a judgement and lien.

they randomly call and harass my family and check my credit report. I never have had a bad debt or one that has been sold off.

I am getting calls on my cell phone and house phone

Ara keeps calling me and my family and my work saying they just received my claim and I have until 100 today to call or I will be sent to court

ARA is harassing me and my mother. Saying I had a payday loan (which are illegal in MA) and keep calling saying I'm being brought up on check fraud charges. Yesterday Michelle Jackson called me five times, and hung up on me twice telling me that she doesn't want to talk to me, and to get off her line. Then Leonard Fitzgerald called me today to tell me I now have six charges of check fraud pending. He told me he is a "licensed locator" for my county. However, when asked what county he said Cambridge which is the city I used to live in. I know this is just wrong. Between the harassment and privacy violations... I don't know what to do. The number Mr. Fitzgerald told me to call is 888-333-5509.

I've received 2 calls today (1/8/16), one on my cell and one at work. Each call threatened legal action for 2 counts of check fraud for case # 178177WI2063. The call back number they gave is 855-203-3216. In the voicemails they did not identify themselves as a debt collector, just threatened legal action.

ARA has called once and sent a letter saying I owe them 12,812.84 collection from a providaian Visa card default from 2002, statute of limitations has run it's course as it has been well over 10 years. ARA file# 1688862-01

They call here several times a day and hang up when answer

Dear Gary B., In reference to our conversation today regarding your First Card account, ARA Inc. has agreed to the following settlement: Upon receiving your check by phone or credit card payment for $1,177.68 by July 22, 2016 and when this payment clears as paid, your account will be settled in full and satisfied. Additionally, ARA Inc. will not report any derogatory information to the credit bureaus. If for any reason this settlement is not met, this offer becomes NULL and VOID and the full balance of $11,776.85 will become due. I can't pay my credit cards Asset Recovery has started calling respectively,we can't pay Bill pand are judgement proof,do not own any thing.when they sue what do I do?

A man from ARA named Paul Epstein called me on Dec. 7th or 8th and told me he was an Attorney and if I didn't pay a Montgomery Wards from 1994. He said if I didn't pay this $3,368.66 he was filling in court the next day. I told him I have never applied for that card and that my ex-husband probably did. We divorced in 1994 and that's when Mr. Epstein said that's when it was opened. I asked him for paper proof that that was my signiture and not my ex-husband's writing. I told him I needed the paper proof to go after my ex for this fraud and he said he would send it immediatly. I gave him my debit card number to take out $10.00 on the 3rd of Jan. I looked them up online and found your site after many sites with nothing but complaints and scam notices. I am going to my bank tom. to stop payment on my debit card because I got a letter from ARA stating I owed this debt of $3,368.66 to be paid at $10.00 monthly until the balance is paid off. I called Mr. Epstein toda y to ask about the paper proof he said he was going to send and he got nasty to me because I called him out about being an Attorney. He hung up on me so I called back and asked to speak to a superviser. A man named Craig Willshire got on the phone and asked me to tell him the problem. I explained all this to him and he said this is my debt no matter what and said I must do this all the time. This agency is the only company to call me about an old debt ever, and he said they will take me to court and the judge will make me pay it or I will spend time in jail. I told him I was on disability and have Muscular Sclerosis and cannot go to jail and he said that would be up to the judge. Please help advise me so I can get this matter done with. I'm not supposed to get stressed out because stress causes me to go into a relapse and that is not fun I promise you. Thank you for your time.

Ara assocites called me several times including my dad and left a message that is I didn't call asap that I would be processed for check fraud. Of course I called and started a payment plan for a debt I know I owed. But they did not identified them self as a collection agency. They left several messages and called my job. I know I owed a debt and am willing to pay but only gave me the option to pay 326 biweekly which is killing me right now. They said if I didn't pay that I would be charged with bank fraud and check fraud and go to jail. They told this to my dad as well and called him several times. I missed a payment and they said if I didn't reinstate my payment plan that what I paid would be voided what I had paid which was over 500 so far and I would owe 3000 and then I would be charged. I just want to kow how is this legal. I understand I owe the money but this is not a reasonable payment plan. I just don't know what to do.

ARA called me today and said I owe money on credit cards under my previous married name Linda Boitnott. I was divorced from Harlan Boitnott about twenty years ago. They said there is legal action against me in Pasco County, Florida. I checked my credit report and talked to Experion and they both show no debt. They said they tried to contact via mail, but I never got anything from them.

I keep getting phone calls from ARA, they are harassing my family and me. They keep on calling i ask for an address and email they wont give that to me. I havent given them my social but they have that. They hang up on me and tell me to pay my bills. They call up to my old job and ask for me, i just want them to stop. I have no idea why i never took out a loan online and its really annoying.

I am receiving calls that I am going to be served a bench warrant because I did not pay something? I called and asked about it, I asked him to get to the point because he was going on and on and I was trying to figure ouyt if it was a scam or not, I ended up hanging up.. they calling me 15 times, then left a message, saying pay your bills, this is life, pay your bills and then said Miss you and the end, thats sooo creepy and just wierd. Please help. I saved all my messages

They called asking for the account number and social security number. I think this is or going to be an identity fraud case.

His name is Gregg Davis he's very rude and demanding I need this to stop I feel if he calls my job again he's going to get me fired

Ara is calling be telling me there going to send me to court in my county knows all my information told my wife she was going to get introuble called my work and harassed them called friends family what can I do legally there very rude

I got a phone call yesterday morning from ARA saying I owe Well Fargo Credit Card Services 1000+ dollars for a credit card from back in the 90's. They also had my Social Security number, and stated they had a federal warrant for collection or arrest of this.

Asset Recovery has called 3 times this week and once in late Feb. with hangup calls. I spoke to them today and they asked for my husband on my cell phone# and claimed they're suing for Citibank for $4000 from 1998, a debt that isn't his and he has never had credit with them. They refuse to send anything in writing, which of course is way beyond the statute of limitations, and say they'll keep calling (robocalls). They had his last 4 of SS# so I'm assuming they're trolling credit reports to get that along with my phone number. We have never had any collections with them.

Hi Jackie, I'm sorry to hear of this harassment. This could indeed be a scam, as it is a debt you do not recall and the threat of taking you to court is not used by legitimate debt collectors. It is also illegal in some cases: the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act prohibits "the threat to take any action that cannot legally be taken or is not intended to be taken" by a debt collector. We can help you figure out your options and end the harassment. Thanks, Mike.

I received a call from Ms. Jacksonm claiming I owe an online debt for $390.00. I don't recall ever getting this online loan. I checked my credit report and I see no debt they claim They say if I don't pay I will be going to court. Im currently pregnant and scared. Is this a scam. Every call I get is private or block. I also received a message to call ARA at 855-860-9612. What Can I Do

My mother is almost 70 years old and she is getting called from ARA for a voluntary repossession she did over 10 years ago when she got sick and was unable to work. I called them on her behalf today and 1) they hung up on me initially and when I called back I asked for Dannie and was told she was not in but I could speak to her supervisor then i was told the supervisor was busy and the lady who answered would help. She started tell in me how they are trying to help Mama resolve a debt and that she owes $17K plus due to interest. They have her assigned to the Senior Division. The lady also said that Mama has two options to repay and "...certainly she can tell us to take a flying leap...we can't make her pay." They seem to be a scam to me. I asked for her name and she said she was Dannie...when I called her on the comment that Dannie was out of the office she gave me some excuse. I admit I don't know very much about voluntary repossession and debts that are over 10 years old but it seems strange to me to go after someone for a debt this old and it has interest that is this outrageous! I just don't trust these people. My mother is not able to make any kind of payments to them because she has worked in years due to her illness and she just can't pay them.

Hi Ba, 855-202-3142 is one of ARA's numbers. I will call you to see if we can help you pursuant to the several federal laws you are protected under. Did ARA call you on your cell phone? Also, did you receive a letter from ARA? We can check your credit report, too, to make sure neither ARA nor any other collector is in accurately reporting on your credit report. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Ellie, 630-599-5060 is Asset Recovery Associates, also known as ARA, Inc. This sounds like a freighting experience you had with ARA and William Brice. A quick Google search reveals that you're not the only person who has dealt with William Brice. I wonder if that's really his name? I'm glad to hear you did not give ARA your bank account information. I have helped countless consumers who were scared into giving out their bank account or credit card information over the phone. I always tell people to never a pay a debt over the phone, unless you've seen something in writing and only if you know exactly who is on the other end of the line. ARA is notorious for scaring people into making payments over the phone. I will contact you to we can further discuss the debt and your options. I suspect this debt is beyond the statue of limitations and not on your credit report. Either way, let's figure out your best options on the phone. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Tami, 855-599-7663 is one of ARA's numbers. Do not pay ARA without speaking with my office first. We can help you determine if the debt is within the statute of limitations or on your credit report. We can also help you determine if ARA violated one of the main federal laws you are protected under. I have helped over 100 consumers in less than 4 years that are being harassed by ARA. Let's discuss your options on the phone to see if I can help you, too.

My adult soon and I have both been contacted by two people, the first person claimed she was a private locator for ARA and have my son a phone number and case number to " give to your mother immediately in regards to check fraud ". Before I could call the number I also received a call from this lady with the same case number and phone number to call. When I called the number they knew where I lived and banked several years ago and stated that I had received an online loan for $680 that I never paid back and they were now collecting on this as well as demanding $700+ for their fees. I never applied for an online loan that I can recall and have not lived there for almost ten years but they are now threatening me with court unless I pay them the initial $680 via credit card or a bank account number. The names they give me are Erin Carter as the 'locator' and Daniel Williams as the negotiator with ARA. Phone number he used was 855-599-7663 but the ladies number was blocked. They seem to have my social security number and know where I used to work but got very nasty when I said I had never received an online loan and stated they will be pressing charges against me. What can I do? Thank you.

For 3 days ive been called 2x a day from ara. She had my social and 2 places i lived. They say i owe 1058. That was intereest on 300.00 line of credit from a bank. I never had cc with that bank. I made appt with my lawyer bc we are also military and this debt is like 19 yrs old.

I was just contacted by ARA Associates 630-599-5060 (Illinois) and was transferred to William Brice ( who was very rude and unproffessional) regarding a supposed old debt for my husband. They had my husband's full name, full SSN and address. They claimed that this account has been through 7 different collection agencies. But they could not tell me how long this account has been in default. They told me that they would pursue this in court. But they could not tell me anything about the debt it self except it was for TransSouth Bank (Also on Ripoff Report) for $4,627.58 that included interest fees that have been accumulating while floating around with different collection agencies. But could not tell be the original amount owed. Said that they would settle for $2,599.00 +/-. They never referenced an account number and said they were not a collection agency, but that this phone call was being recorded. Told me that my husband knows about this debt but has refused to pay it and that I need to communicate with my husband. Said that they sent a letter in October to my house, which they did not. They said they have signed affidavits of contact attempts. They said I was trying to protect my husband when I was trying to get information about this debt. They offered to send me proof of the debt via email or fax, but would not stop accusing me and my husband long enough for me to provide them with any email or fax number. I said we have lived at the same address for four years and we have never received anything saying we owe thousands of dollars. How the heck did they get my cell phone number and not his? Why the heck were they so willing to smear my husbands information all over the place. I honestly think the is just a fabricated debt. Or if it was made by his ex-wife, she is now deceased and my husband nor I are responsible. We simply do not have a clue who these people are or where this supposed debt came from! What they didn't know is that I'm not bullied very easily. I will not give out my bank account information to some random person calling me!

I got call from ARA saying something about Fraud too. The number i was told was 855-202-2979

Jerry, I'm willing to sign on if there would be some sort of a class action suit against them. My guts are just knotted over how ignorant I was with this company and how quickly they fed off my reactionary response. I can see by my research today that I am only one of HUNDREDS of people dealing with this humiliation and burden. Anything I can do to help stop this I will!

Dear Sir, I too have fallen victim to these ludicris people at Asset Recovery Inc. At the initial call a couple of months ago, the representative made me feel extremely bullied and really bad about myself in general. I did state this to him that I did not appreciate his tone. He continued his bantering and in a nut shell got me to agree to making the payments on a 20 year old debt. These people had some pretty in depth information on me. They threatened to garnish my debit as well as my paycheck. I gave them my debit information, not feeling good about it at all. The gentleman on the phone said he would be sending out paper work for me to sign as a contract with schedule of payments. I still have not received ANY written agreement from them, however they are taking their payments. There has been no written ANYTHING mailed to my home address and no email contact, but they sure do call my house. I have not answered their calls since the initial phone contact. I feel so stupid for being bullied into this. I feel stupid for being misled into this agreement and I feel stupid for letting it happen. I went to the grocery store today only to find that i only had only $27 on my card. I came home to call my card company only to find out that they again took my money. So I looked up ARA online to get a contact number to thank them for leaving me broke with 5 kids to feed. Upon initial google search the first entry was that this company was a scam. My heart went to my gut. I called an cancelled my debit card, now I have ot wait two weeks for a new one. Not only that I have to go to all my utility companies and get that straightened out. I want my money back! I want peace of mind. I have been researching all day, Ive found that this very well may have reopened the Statute of limitations on this account, which is something that I dont want to deal with. So now, holidays coming on, I have to deal with this while trying to provide two holiday dinners and now looking at the expense of just doing away with it all as a bankruptcy situation. Anything you can help with in any way is much appreciated. I can't deal with the anxiety, stomach cramps, and panic when the phone rings anymore.

hi, I'm an attorney in Dallas, TX. I handle all type of litigation cases. this afternoon, my paralegal got a call from ARA. A message was sent on her voicemail, inferring that a criminal case would be filed against her. when I called ARA, they gave me the runaround. I'm so mad at them, I want to sue them just for the hell of it. my question is: 1. do you have any potential cases in TX? I'm sure I can get a lot clients after listening to their stories. perhaps we can cooperate in these cases.

I also was contacted by the same company and they also had all my information. 1st time was in March 2015 telling me there was a legal action against me for fraud. Supposedly I had taken out an online account to receive money back in July of 2012 and had they had all my personal information including last 4 digits of my social and bank account number. They said that the account was for 455 and was deposited into my bank account July 19, 2012. I immediately hung up with them and contacted my bank and explained to them the phone call I received and had them go back to that date the money was supposedly deposited and there was no deposit of such. The funny thing is even tho they had my personal information the email address was not mine. So I let it go and threw it off as a scam. Later on I received a voicemail that was left on my phone telling there was legal action taking out on me and needed my current address so they can serve me papers and said they will either serve me at home or work and right before she hung up she said that i have officially been served. I thought how can you be officially served from a voicemail and i shrugged that off as well.. On September 31, 2015 I received a call From my county clerk of courts office and she said that I had a judgement for fraud against me and papers were being filed at their office and gave me a phone # 855-201-8979 and a case# CV166305-04 and told me when I call them to give them the case#. NOW when I seen that the call was from my county clerk of courts off It scared the crap out of me. So I called to see what was going on and it was for that very same account that was said I supposedly taken out. I told them I never took out such a account nor that I would ever get an online account, and there was no money ever deposited into my account and I can get bank statements to prove it. Greg Davis said that he was the arbitrator and said that the paper work was already started and said that they had enough against me to follow through with filing the papers at this time and I can see them in court and I was asked if I had legal representation.... the only way that they could stop the process is if I made a payment to them right then. Now seeing the first call was from my county clerk of courts office and not thinking clearly at that time I gave him my debit card info and paid them 25 dollars at that time and he scheduled payments for me through November til I had the debt paid off in full. After we hung up and I finally cleared my head I went online and started researching this company and I found this website and I had an online chat with one of their operators whom I explained my situation to and she immediately had an associate call me. She told me I was being scammed and to immediately cancel out my debit card and I did so the following Monday because the next payment would have automatically came out on that following Friday. So now as of Yesterday October 14th I received a call from a different number 855-202-3142 ext 207 from a Maria with ARA. There has got to be something we can do to stop all these bogus harassing calls and Im still wondering how I received a call from my county clerk of courts when I'm being scammed??? What can we do to stop this???

I received a call from ARA oct 9 2015 1 855-202-3142 Please contact me asap I sent a email to you thank you.....

My experience with ARA started with someone calling and harassing my mother who lives in another state from me. She had received numerous calls from them and informed me about it. We both looked them up and came to the conclusion that it was a scam. Today my mother sent me a message to let me know they had called again. I called and spoke to someone and was told I would be called back as the person handling my case was in court. I got a call back and this person proceded to list a lot of personal information about me and said that I owed a debt in the form of a payday loan. She said because the bank account was closed before the debt was paid that I had committed fraud and that unless I paid the amount in full or at least some of it then they would be filing papers in court in my country for fraud and that my mother, step father and his brother would all be summonsed to court as well, along with someone I have never heard of. I asked why I had not received any correspondence from the company itself or the company I owed to which I was told that they had tried to contact me numerous times at the current address and my old address. I moved almost 10 years ago. I asked them to please stop contacting my mother and my fiancée who they also called and she just kept saying that she would be contacted for court. 10 minutes after I get off the phone with this women she is calling my mother again from a private number and harassing her one call after another. I don't know what to do at this long.

Received a call from ARA litigation stating I owed a payday loan from 2013. They said there 2 formal complaints filed against me. If I didn't make arrangements that day they would see me in court. I made arrangements for payment. After the call I did research and found out there was no ARA litigation but an actual collection company. They started calling as early as 7:30 am this morning before I finally answered and made arrangements. Ph# they called from was 855-201-2062. Hope you can confirm if this is a legit company or if I have been scammed.

I have had this ARA company harass, call friends and family and threaten with legal action and arrest. I have asked them to stop calling my cell and my family. They are worrying my parents because of their scare tactics. It's not right and they should be stopped.

I was called on 8/24/2015 by Asset Recovery Associates. They told me I owe Texaco $5000.00.. I had a Texaco card back about 15 or 20 years ago. I got breast cancer in 1998 and I had a stroke in 2007. I was unable to back to work. I'm on disability now. The day they called Some angry lady talked to me. It has over 10 years and I have it back. She knew my phone number and my address. I moved the last of Marc. She knew what credit cards that I had. I told her I couldn't pay it. She said my Capital One had the lament of $2600.00 on it.She pay it right then. I got her down to $1500.00. I paid it on the capital one card. She would garnish my check , I said that she couldn't. The only thing that was coming to my account is my disability check. She was going to put a judgement on my account and they wood send for all the credit cards. She said I would put on my capital one card and she wouldn't go my bank. I was threatened by 2 women and I gave the money to Craigslist Wishire. They scared me to death. I said I wanted to a couple days and she would lot me. I got a text from capital one. They asked me about the charge. If I cancel the charges on my city Bank card, what would happen. They made me my sign my name to with my finger. They didn't give my to check with anybody. WHAT CAN I DO?

just got a similar call from ARA. It was quite threatening. The dept is over 15 years old for a card I never used. I think and old girl friend of mind use my signature and told the company we were married, because she's using my last name to get credit. That's why the first company told me I didn't owe the debt after they research it. I already chatted with one of your representatives on the phone.

This company called ARA has cost me a job and keeps on calling my mom, husband and not sure who else talking about some fraudulent check and even gave I believe a fake docket number 128321. How can we get these harassing calls stopped? This is the number they are leaving 8552137390 ext 102 please help

ARA called my wife at home yesterday (#888-409-5060) they had no problem discussing all my personal information and this bogus debt. They threatened legal action and jail time. I called them back today, they said this is from an acct that was opened in 1994 until 2006 at an address I have NEVER lived at with a company I have NEVER heard of. I pointed out what the law says (FDCPA) and they tried to tell me that it doesn't apply to them since they are initiating legal action. This isn't even my debt! I have had two lengthy conversations with these scammers there stories don't jive all they do is try to spew some legalize and use scare tactics...oh and I recorded them to :) for proof of them releasing information and flat out lying.

Hello, I am receiving calls from Asset Recovery at both my place of employment, home and they are even calling my Dad and threatening him. I called them once and told them never to call my work again and that I needed to look further into this debt, but they keep calling. I am just curious as to what I might be able to do to get them to stop calling. They offered me only two options to pay off the debt which I can not do at the moment so I'm not sure what to do. Any info or insight you might have would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I got a call from ARA for a credit card I had in college. I had thought with another collection that I had paid it off but I may be wrong. they called me and wanted to charge a lot of court fees and everything. I had complained to the BBB because the lady was rude and they wanted to settle but I looked up the company and a lot of people say it was a scam. just wanted to get an opinion

I recieved a call from a man by the name of Chase Robertson he said he was a processor server and he has been trying to serve me and my home or place of employment and was calling to speak to my supervisor to get the proper protocal to serve papers to me, when I asked for his number he refused to give it to me and proceeded to give me the number to the company ARA, I called the number talked to one gentleman who asked do I have any money to pay towards the debt I told him that I didn't so he transferred me to his supervisor Charlotte Bowers, she began to tell me about a payday loan that was taking out in july of 2012 from a bank account that I dont even have, she then told me in order to stop the harrasing phone calls I needed to pay $50 or $96 to get my payments down. I asked her could she send me proof of the debt that was owed she told me no because she already sent a letter in April and when I make the payment the company name will show on my bank statement, I again asked her to send me proof and she quickly turnt and asked me was I choosing not to cooperate with ARA anymore. If I owe money to your company why can you not provide proof of the debt? The phone number I was provided with is 855-213-7390 ext 111

Hello I have just received a call from ARA 855-213-3248, was told pay by today or filing with my county. This is for a payday loan supposedly from an old bank account I do not remember this and haven't gotten anything from the payday loan group about owing them money or that court action was fixing to take place. Hope you can help with this, thanks

When I told Kimberly no, and stated to her I never received anything in the mail. she said they mailed something to me, that is not true. She said we will file court case against you for this debt. This is for a credit card that I had back in 2000, according to law shouldn't they not harass me for a debt that is fifteen years old. It was for a credit card where the limit was only $300. Now she is saying I owe almost $3000. She said she would email me the letter, which she didn't do. I told her not working and she was asking was i receiving any type of income and could i ask my parents or someone to help me make monthly payments. She said we will look you up to see of you are receiving any type of income to see if you really can pay the debt

Hi, I received a call today from ARA this morning from the number 630-396-8575 and I spoke to Kimberly Wallace. She stated my name and said was I aware of the case that is against me. I told her no.

Got a call from the "process server" in my county and that they were looking to serve me at my home or place of employment and have been previously unsuccessful. They mentioned an old bank account number I used to have at chase. The gentleman told me if I didn't set up a payment arrangement, I would be served with a pending court date tomorrow or in the near future. I gave him my debit card info to pay on Friday. Can you help me out?

My father has been contacted by these people over a debt that is over 14 years old. They called his house threatening and then called my house looking for him. We live in NY state. Can they still do this? It's over an old credit card debt that my father (who's 90 now) that he could not pay due to medical and financial issues. Can they pursue this debt through me? After looking their phone number up and searching I found your site.

I received a call form this company ARA on Monday. They are trying to collect on a debt that is 15 -20 years old. There is a statue of limitation in the state of New York. ( i thought 7 years) How can they try to collect on that? Will sending a cease and desist letter help?

Hi Gary, Thank you for the additional information. We will call you this morning, send you an attorney-client agreement, stop the harassment by Asset Recovery Associates, and most importantly, we will get your money back. Thanks, Mike

The number that contacted me was (888) 409-5060 and I spoke with Faith Mann at ext. 3036. After speaking with my bank they don't just suggest that I dispute it, but change our long standing checking and savings account for a debt I have never heard of nor has ever been on my credit report. But stupidly my wife and I were scared into paying the settlement offer of $2,622.96 (before we spoke with our bank) which goes through tonight to settle this "debt" in full even after I said I never had a credit card with Bank of America and only had a checking account that was closed in 2007. The statute of limitations should be closed on that and there is no way I owe that much money on a checking account they claim to be a credit card! After seeing only negative and scam reports from googling ARA, I decided to come here. I hope you can help and I'm sorry for all the posts, but once I got home my wife wanted to make sure all the facts were straight while building our case.

Hi Gary, I'm sorry to hear Asset Recovery Associates is giving you such a hard time. You're not alone. Based on my experience, Asset Recovery Associates is super aggressive. I will call you back tomorrow to discuss your options. I'm confident I can get your money back from Asset Recovery Associates. Try to get some rest tonight. I'll help you in the morning. Thanks, Mike

I have been contacted by Asset Recovery Services as well. I received a letter with a $8000.00 old debt. I had no idea what I have ever had for that amount. I knew it seamed fishy but long story short I ended up stupidly paying $2622.96 by electronic deposit and it goes through tonight. Needless to say I will not sleep tonight. Not sure what I need to do, police? I contacted the number and gave the nice lady my phone number. Can you help me?

Hi Donna, ARA Inc. in Villa Park, Illinois is super aggressive. Do not become of victim of their illegal tactics. They cannot you with a judgment. ARA, Inc., also should not be calling your family members if ARA already knows your location information. I can help you stop the harassment immediately like I've done for so many other consumers being harassed by ARA, Inc. Please call my office at 888-572-0176 so we may further discuss your rights. Thanks, Mike

I have received two threatening phone calls from ARA Inc. in Villa Park, Illinois, Phone 888-409-5060 and they have even called my son and his wife in another state and just received a Fedex Express letter from them. Most of the personal information they stated was erroneous and they told me they tried to contact me at a few addresses and phone numbers that I have never even lived at or know anyone that lives there. They are demanding payment immediately on a Chase credit card from over 20 years ago that I have no recollection of or they have threatened me with a judgement if I do not send them a check or credit card by today.

Hi Mary, This is typical conduct of Asset Recovery Associates (ARA). I've helped several consumers who've experienced the same type of threats. I can stop the harassment in one e-mail to Asset Recovery Associates (ARA). Let's discuss this further over the phone. Thanks, Mike

Hi I also received a call from a ara they said I would be served papers for fraud in my county. 855-703-5205. This number they called me from. They are harassing my family I don't know what to do

Hi Daphney, There are a few collection agencies called ARA. Asset Recovery Associates, or ARA, Inc., in Lombard, IL, is a legitimate collection agency. Although they are quite aggressive, they are legitimate. The ARA you received a call from may be the ARA that's a scam company. I call the number you provided back (855-505-0105) and it seems like a scam to me. To be certain, however, look at your credit report to ensure everything is accurate. You can get a free copy of your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com Next, follow my suggestions below to help stop the calls: 1. Do not answer their calls 2. Tell your family, coworkers, etc., to ignore their calls, too 3. Register your number on the do-not-call list at https://www.donotcall.gov/ 4. File a complaint with the better business bureau at http://www.bbb.org/ 5. File a complaint with the Consumer Financial Credit Bureau at http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ 6. Ask your phone provider to block their number and 7. If you accidentally answer their phone call, do not give out any personal information over the phone (such as a credit card number, bank account number, or social security number). I suspect once you start ignoring their calls, then the calls will stop. I will further discuss this with you over the phone. Thanks, Mike.

I received a call saying ARA is looking to serve me for Fraud. They say they are based in MA. They left the number 855-505-0105

Hi Marisela, Thank you for your detailed comment. I have helped so many people harassed by Asset Recovery Associates (ARA), and most of them share your same experience. 888-409-5060 is Asset Recovery Associates (ARA) calling you. I think someone from my office already contacted you. If not, I will contact you to get more information from you regarding Asset Recovery Associates (ARA). You have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ("FDCPA"). As I have done so many times against Asset Recovery Associates (ARA), I will stop the harassment, get you money damages (up to $1,000.00), and Asset Recovery Associates (ARA, Inc.) will be responsible for my attorney's fees and costs. You won't pay me a penny for my services. Thanks, Mike.

Hi I received a very disturbing call from ARA & Associates. The woman on the phone asked for me in such a way, that I told her that she was not here and asked who it was and to leave a message, well she wasted no time leaving me a detailed message to write down for me, little did she know that she was talking to me already, but wasted not time telling my personal business to the person who answered the phone, even though it was me pretending not to be cause of the way she approached me almost threatening like, I know that is not the way the laws work when trying to collect a bill. I know enough about it that they are not suppose to leave detailed information on the phone with someone else about a case if it were the case etc..., she was using scare tactics on the phone and warned that unless they received a call back asap from me that information about me would be released in Broward County and that it will directly impact my life and that a case was being filed against me etc.. and they left a name to call which is Amy Lewis with a direct extension 3076 number 888-409-5060 and a case number to call back # G1079956-Sl9827. They made it sound almost like a criminal investigation of sorts about me was underway and that they had been filed against me, rather than a debt collection. That was not mentioned, but I almost wish they had, at least I would have felt it was a debt collector. In this case, it sounded like she was warning me about a possible wrath that was about to be unleashed in my name for something terrible that I had done. Imagine if that person on the phone would have been someone else really or an employee or partner or associate that would have thought I was a criminal or something and then told others and caused me damage personally or caused me any hardship or loss of work or tortuous interference in my company etc? Whatever the case, it was obvious that they were not acting in accordance with bill collectors calls standards or statues, I know the difference, I think we all have one time or another. This woman seemed she had been trained by thugs instead and she meant to intimidate me and the caller who she thought was me. Is there anything I can do to protect my interest without responding to this company's request to call them back only to be spoken to again in this manner? Personally, I don't even know what this is about. If you can help me with this situation please advise. If they are not legitimate in what they do, then I hope to be able to put a stop to what they are trying to do to me and hopefully help to save others from the same feelings I felt today after the call. This is why I have been doing research and came across you. Thank you very much for your consideration in this regard. I will look forward to hearing back from you.
